Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
On a day-to-day basis I independently or "pair code" on "tickets". "Tickets" are pieces of a software project split up into more manageable chunks.
The team conducts session to decide on what information is contained in each ticket, and an estimate of its difficulty.
Bi-weekly, my team and I reflect on the work we have completed in the previous two week sprint, and decide on actions to improve the next sprint. I go into the office in Salford media city once per week.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

4/5
I enjoy my program as I am gaining experience. Also, I can see directly how what I learn at university corresponds to what I do at work. At times, managing the academic workload on top of work can be difficult.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I have learnt new software skills and developed soft skills, such as communication.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
I think my programme is well structured.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. I can request additional study days around times where I have many assignments or an exam. My colleagues are always happy to help, and appreciate that I don't know everything. The BBC also has a wide network of employees in various industries, so I can get involved with lots of different activities.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

3/5
Overall I receive good support from my training provided in the form of tutorials where I can ask tutors questions directly. Or watch a recording of a tutorial and email my questions. I also find it helpful that the feedback on my assignments is in depth. I gave this section three starts because at times last minute changes to questions/content; and internal deadlines tripped me up a little. Personally, I would have preferred to study the programming modules earlier in the course, and the project management ones later.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

4/5
The content of the course from my training provider is relevant, and I use it day-to-day in my role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
In my first year I was involved with the apprentice social media team. I have been involved in several outreach events; networking events and apprentice socials. Recently, I joined an internal public speaking group. The BBC also has frequent newsletters discussing different things going on in media city, that you can get involved in.
