Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a Junior Production Coordinator apprentice at the BBC working with FirstLook TV, my role is to support the production team in organising and delivering television content from pre-production through to post-production. I help ensure that all logistical, administrative, and communication processes run smoothly so that productions stay on schedule and within budget.
On a day-to-day basis, this involves a mix of administrative and practical tasks. I assist with creating and distributing call sheets, updating production schedules, and maintaining accurate records such as contributor forms, contracts, and release paperwork. I also help coordinate travel, accommodation, and equipment bookings for cast and crew, while tracking expenses and supporting the production budget.
During filming, I support the team by helping to coordinate shoot days, ensuring everyone is where they need to be and that plans run efficiently. This can involve problem-solving on the spot and keeping production documentation up to date. I also act as a point of communication between different departments, helping to keep everyone informed.
In post-production, I assist with organising paperwork and footage, liaising with editors, and supporting the delivery process to ensure all content meets required standards. As an apprentice, I am continuously learning industry practices, developing my organisational and communication skills, and taking on increasing responsibility within the team.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme a lot. It has been a really positive experience so far, and I appreciate the opportunity to learn on the job while being part of a professional production environment. I particularly enjoy the variety in my day-to-day work, as no two days are the same, and I am constantly developing new skills. Working alongside experienced colleagues and contributing to real productions makes the programme both engaging and rewarding.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, I have both learnt new skills and developed existing ones during my programme. I have improved my organisational and time management skills by handling schedules, paperwork, and coordinating logistics. I have also developed stronger communication skills through working with different departments and liaising with crew and contributors.
In addition, I have gained new technical and industry-specific knowledge, such as understanding production workflows, using scheduling and budgeting tools, and supporting both filming and post-production processes. I have also become more confident in problem-solving and working in a fast-paced environment, which has helped me grow both professionally and personally.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Amazing opportunity to learn, grow and work in a friendly, creative and encouraging environment.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
I would advise anyone applying to the BBC to be clear about why they are interested in the organisation and the specific role, and to show genuine enthusiasm for the industry. It is important to demonstrate an understanding of what the role involves, even at a basic level, and how your skills or experiences relate to it.
I would also recommend highlighting strong organisational and communication skills, as these are essential in most production roles. Being proactive, reliable, and willing to learn are key qualities that employers look for, so try to give examples that show these traits.
Additionally, gaining any relevant experience, even if it is small or informal, can be really helpful. This could include volunteering, student projects, or any work that shows teamwork and responsibility.
Finally, take time with your application, tailor it carefully, and make sure it is clear and well-structured. Showing attention to detail and a positive attitude can make a strong impression.
