Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
As a care assistant in a care home, my role is to support residents with their daily needs while promoting their dignity, independence, and wellbeing. This includes helping with personal care such as washing, dressing, toileting, and mobility, as well as assisting with meals, medication support where required, and providing emotional support and companionship.
On a day-to-day basis, I monitor residents’ health and wellbeing, report any changes to senior staff or nurses, update care records, and follow care plans to ensure each resident receives person-centred care. I also help maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment while working closely with colleagues, families, and other healthcare professionals.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I enjoy it very much as it is giving me more knowledge on my role .

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Yes, I have developed both new and existing skills in my role as a care assistant. I have improved my communication skills by working with residents who have dementia, hearing difficulties, or limited speech, learning how to be more patient and use clear, respectful communication.
I have also strengthened my teamwork and time management skills by supporting colleagues during busy shifts and making sure residents’ needs are met safely and efficiently. In addition, I have developed my observation skills by recognising changes in residents’ behaviour, mood, or physical health and reporting concerns promptly. I have also gained more confidence in using care plans, recording information accurately, and following safeguarding and infection control procedures.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
My programme is well organised and structured, with clear learning outcomes and regular support from my Lifetime team member and workplace managers and supervisors. The training is planned to link both theory and practical work, which helps me apply what I learn directly in my role as a care assistant.
I have scheduled reviews, observations, and progress meetings that help me stay on track and understand what is expected of me. The programme also includes opportunities for reflection, feedback, and goal setting, which support my continuous development and confidence in completing my Level 3 apprenticeship.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I receive good support from my employer throughout my role and apprenticeship. My manager, senior carers, and colleagues are always available to guide me, answer questions, and provide feedback on my work. They support me with training opportunities, supervision, and practical advice during shifts.
I am also given time to complete apprenticeship work, attend reviews, and take part in observations. My employer encourages me to develop my skills, build confidence, and work towards my Level 3 qualification while making sure I provide safe and high-quality care to residents.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
I receive good support from my training provider throughout my Level 3 apprenticeship. My Lifetime team member provide regular guidance, clear explanations, and helpful feedback on my coursework and reflections. They make sure I understand the requirements of each module and help me improve where needed.
I also have regular progress reviews and meetings where we discuss my development, goals, and any challenges I may be facing. They are approachable and supportive, which helps me stay motivated, organised, and confident in completing my apprenticeship successfully.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
My qualification through my training provider helps me perform better in my role by improving my knowledge, confidence, and practical skills as a care assistant. It helps me understand the importance of person-centred care, safeguarding, communication, infection control, and professional boundaries, which I use every day in the care home.
The training also encourages me to reflect on my practice and identify ways to improve the support I give to residents. By linking theory to real-life situations at work, I am able to provide safer, higher-quality care and work more effectively as part of the team.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes, there are extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work. In the care home, we take part in staff meetings, training sessions, wellbeing activities, fundraising events, and seasonal celebrations such as Christmas parties, summer events, and charity days.
There are also opportunities to support residents with activities like bingo, gardening, singing sessions, and community visits, which helps build stronger relationships and teamwork. These activities improve staff morale, create a positive working environment, and help me develop confidence and communication skills outside of my usual daily duties.
