Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
On a day-to-day basis, I monitor residents’ health and wellbeing, report any changes to senior staff or nurses, update care records, and follow care plans to ensure each resident receives person-centred care. I also help maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment while working closely with colleagues, families, and other healthcare professionals.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have also strengthened my teamwork and time management skills by supporting colleagues during busy shifts and making sure residents’ needs are met safely and efficiently. In addition, I have developed my observation skills by recognising changes in residents’ behaviour, mood, or physical health and reporting concerns promptly. I have also gained more confidence in using care plans, recording information accurately, and following safeguarding and infection control procedures.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
I have scheduled reviews, observations, and progress meetings that help me stay on track and understand what is expected of me. The programme also includes opportunities for reflection, feedback, and goal setting, which support my continuous development and confidence in completing my Level 3 apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
I am also given time to complete apprenticeship work, attend reviews, and take part in observations. My employer encourages me to develop my skills, build confidence, and work towards my Level 3 qualification while making sure I provide safe and high-quality care to residents.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
I also have regular progress reviews and meetings where we discuss my development, goals, and any challenges I may be facing. They are approachable and supportive, which helps me stay motivated, organised, and confident in completing my apprenticeship successfully.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
The training also encourages me to reflect on my practice and identify ways to improve the support I give to residents. By linking theory to real-life situations at work, I am able to provide safer, higher-quality care and work more effectively as part of the team.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
There are also opportunities to support residents with activities like bingo, gardening, singing sessions, and community visits, which helps build stronger relationships and teamwork. These activities improve staff morale, create a positive working environment, and help me develop confidence and communication skills outside of my usual daily duties.
