Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Bupa?

I have been with Bupa for 13 years and overall it’s been a really positive experience. I’ve had the opportunity to grow within the company and take on more responsibility over time, and I feel like Bupa has supported my development throughout.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

My role involves overseeing the day-to-day running of the home, supporting staff, ensuring high standards of care are maintained, and dealing with any issues that arise, including incidents and communication with families and professionals.
The part I enjoy most is working with the team and seeing people develop, as well as making improvements that have a real impact on residents’ experience. It’s rewarding when you can see positive outcomes from the changes you’ve put in place.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

My role gives me a lot of opportunity to contribute and have a real input into how things are run. There are always chances to share ideas, suggest improvements, and make changes that have a positive impact on both the team and residents. It doesn’t feel like you’re just doing a job — you’re actually able to influence things and be part of ongoing improvements.
I also feel valued by my team and by Bupa as a whole. There’s a strong focus on listening to staff and recognising contributions, which makes a big difference day to day. It creates a positive working environment where people feel supported and motivated.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

At Bupa there are so many perks and benefits available to staff, and there’s something for everyone. There are things like wellbeing support, discounts, and development opportunities. Bupa has a big focus on supporting staff both in and outside of work. It feels like Bupa genuinely invests in its people, not just in terms of pay but also in benefits and long-term development.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

I feel like my role is preparing me well because it’s very hands-on and you’re constantly dealing with real situations rather than just learning in theory. I’m involved in decision-making, managing staff, handling incidents, and improving how the service runs, which has helped me build confidence and think more independently.
Over time, I’ve been given more responsibility, which has pushed me to develop and step outside my comfort zone. Combined with the support and development opportunities at Bupa, I feel like I’m gaining the right experience to progress further in my career.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

I feel like I’m constantly developing both new and existing skills through my role and the training provided by Bupa. The training is relevant and links well to what I do day to day, which makes it easier to apply in practice. I’ve developed a lot in areas like leadership, communication, and problem-solving, and I’ve definitely grown in confidence over time.

How is the support you receive?

Support has been consistent, especially from managers being approachable and available when things need escalating or talking through. Over my 13 years, I’ve also felt supported in developing and stepping into more responsibility rather than being left to manage alone.

How is your work-life balance?

The role can be busy, especially in a management position, but it’s manageable and there is understanding around workload and wellbeing. I’ve been able to maintain a good balance overall, which is a big reason I’ve stayed with Bupa long term.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

The culture in my home is team-focused and supportive, and you can feel that the priority is doing the right thing for residents rather than just ticking boxes. It’s fast-paced, but people pull together and you’re encouraged to speak up and be involved in improving how things run.

How would you rate Bupa initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

From my experience at Bupa, there’s a genuine focus on inclusion and making sure staff feel respected and supported, especially in such a diverse team. It feels like an open environment where people can be themselves and raise ideas or concerns without feeling judged

How would you rate Bupa CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

From what I’ve seen, Bupa does follow through on things like wellbeing and community support rather than just talking about it, and there are opportunities to get involved at a home level. It links well with the focus on resident wellbeing and creating a positive environment day to day.
