Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
As a Solicitor Apprentice, I am involved in various projects but most often I am drafting bundles and engagement letters. I have also been placed on various document reviews, often in the run up to discovery (the stage in civil court disputes where the different lawyers exchange documents relevant to the case so that the Associates know which documents the firm can disclose without breaching confidentiality).

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
The solicitor apprenticeship at RPC is extremely rewarding. The quality of work and the high calibre clients that we, as a firm, work for is second to none. Above all, my down to earth and supportive colleagues have made my apprenticeship a fantastic experience.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
As a Solicitor Apprentice, I learn and develop new skills on a regular basis due to the variety of tasks and teams I assist with. However, the skill I developed the most would be attention to detail. Granular facts, statements and/or statistics can alter the course of action I am planning to take.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
There is a very clear structure of the programme, which is available on our website for anyone to view. As Solicitor Apprentices, we have four one-year placements, followed by four six-month placements in various practice groups. Thus, I will have the opportunity to experience numerous practice groups (e.g. Tax Disputes, Commercial & Banking Litigation, Employment, Professional & Financial Risks, Media and more).

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I have a dedicated line supervisor who is there to support me on every step of my journey on the apprenticeship. I have weekly calls scheduled with my supervisor however it is always made clear to us that we can always talk to our supervisor about anything. Additionally, when I joined RPC I had a 'buddy' allocated to me to ensure I integrated into the firm smoothly. With that said, I always have my fellow apprentices to rely on, no matter what difficulty comes my way.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
My training provider is the University of Law, and the institute has a well-developed LLB Law programme for solicitor apprentices who have to balance studies with work. At the University of Law, I have a dedicated tutor who ensures I am managing my academic studies and is on hand to help with any concerns I may have.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
The solicitor apprenticeship is an unparalleled programme for learning as I can clearly witness the law play out in real action. It is also extremely rewarding to be able to apply legal knowledge at work. For example, my knowledge in tort became fundamental whilst assisting on the defence of a professional negligence claim against another law firm.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
There are plenty of social events at RPC; amongst one of them is the annual summer party which everyone at the firm is invited to. (The party often includes attractions like bumper karts!)

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend RPC to a friend?

Yes

Why?

As much of a cliché as it may sound, the culture at RPC is brilliant. My colleagues are down to earth, collaborative and have a brilliant sense of humour. This fact paired with high quality work (for example, in March 2026 the firm won a major case at the Supreme Court representing UniCredit), makes RPC a fantastic workplace.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RPC?

For aspiring solicitor apprentices my biggest top tip is to be yourself (as we want to see the real you)!
