Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

4/5
Working collaboratively and independently in a team to solve software based problems. Working towards internal tooling for BBC staff.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

4/5
Plenty of opportunities to get involved in work. Challenging but lots of support available. University was not a positive experience.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

4/5
Constantly learning new skills and building on previous ones. Used a range of technologies.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
Mostly well organised. Good communication between apprenticeship and placement teams. Communications with unversity are very poor.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
Always support available. Schemes specialist is an absolute godsent. When times get tough it is still a joy to come in to work and speak with them.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

2/5
Poor help from the university. When work are doing all they can to help, the university can really not be bothered to help. Some tutors will just not respond to messages.
Employer has done lots to help and raised many issues, but the university do not respond.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

3/5
Not that much was transferrable, mostly things that we have already learnt through working in a software engineering role.
New concepts were mainly theoretical ones. not things that are applied.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

4/5
Some are provided, but my base has made it more difficult to connect with other apprentices. If I had been based in London or Salford (my choice was to be bristol based) then this is a lot better.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?

Yes

Why?

The schemes team, and the wider organisation provide LOADS of support to apprentice and really care about you doing as well as you possibly can. So many opportunities to get stuck in.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?

Keep trying! It is competitive but definitely worth the wait.
