Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am a software engineering degree apprentice working within the vehicle cockpit domain at JLR where my role involves supporting the development, testing and improvement of in-vehicle software used across next generation JLR vehicle platforms. On a day-to-day basis, this can include contributing with software features and investigating defects whilst also ensuring navigation functionality ensures highest quality through test drives.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my degree apprenticeship programme, particularly the combination of academic study at the University of Warwick and practical experience at JLR. Applying university learning to real-world software engineering tasks within the navigation domain makes the programme engaging and rewarding. I have also enjoyed getting involved in university societies and taking part in activities outside of work, such as hikes, team dinners, and other social events, which has helped me build connections and maintain a good work–life balance.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have significantly developed both new and existing skills during my programme. Technically, I have strengthened my software engineering skills, including coding, debugging, testing, and using industry tools and development processes within the Vehicle Cockpit domain. I have also improved my understanding of agile working practices and collaborative development. In addition, I have developed key professional skills such as communication and problem‑solving through balancing work responsibilities with academic study and working closely with colleagues across the team.
