Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role as an apprentice catering engineer involves fault finding, servicing, and installing a wide range of catering equipment.
During the first three months of my course, I completed intensive training where I learned the fundamentals of electrics, safe isolation, and how to service appliances. After this initial period, I spent around six months working closely with my coach, gaining insight into the day-to-day operations at MCFT. During this time, I developed my fault-finding skills, learning how to diagnose issues safely and efficiently, and how to fit the necessary parts across a wide range of appliances.
This experience significantly built my confidence and prepared me to work independently by around the nine-month mark. While working on my own, I have continued to develop my ability to handle challenging situations and interact effectively with customers. With strong support from my team leader, I have also learned the importance of asking for help when faced with problems I cannot resolve on my own.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have really enjoyed learning at MCFT and putting my skills into practice across a variety of sites throughout London. I look forward to going to work each day, and this role has helped me develop valuable life skills while building a strong foundation for my career. It has also given me the opportunity to work in different locations, including Ireland and Scotland. I am excited about continuing to grow and developing further in the future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
While training and working at MCFT, I have learned how to work safely on both gas and electrical appliances. I have been given valuable experience and time to develop and improve these skills. I had a basic understanding of how electricity works, as I come from a family of electricians, but I have been able to build on this knowledge and apply it in practical situations when working on electrical appliances.
The training academy has provided me with all of my knowledge of gas, as I had no previous experience in this area. With the support of the gas trainer, I have developed my understanding and successfully gained my Gas Safe qualification.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme has been clear in outlining what activities I will be doing and when. My schedule is regularly updated, ensuring I always know when I will be attending the training academy.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Whenever I have asked for support, I have received the help I needed, particularly from the gas trainer, and who runs the training academy.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Helped me at every possible opportunity they will call back or message when I need them.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It has provided me with the skills, knowledge, and behaviours needed to work effectively on site and adapt to different situations.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I have been given the opportunity to travel to Dubai twice with the company, where I gained insight into how the business operates in different countries. During these visits, the CEO also treated us to a work dinner, giving us the chance to network and connect with teams from other countries.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend MCFT to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would definitely recommend MCFT to a friend. This opportunity was first introduced to me by my brother-in-law, who works for the company. Since then, I have consistently recommended MCFT to my friends, explaining how much this role has positively changed my life. I encourage them to take the opportunity and apply for the apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to MCFT?
To succeed at MCFT, you need to be willing to learn and take in as much information as possible. You will be given the knowledge and skills required for the job, but it is important to have the drive to improve and succeed.
