Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role offers diverse challenges within the commercial setting of the construction industry. I am able to interact with all key stakeholders of my project and have been given the opportunity to be involved across multiple jobs. My day to day role can bring me anything from dealing with subcontractor applications to internal reporting or drafting contracts. This variety provides me the opportunity to grow within my role and build a broad knowledge base,
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
My programme is very enjoyable and Mace provide a platform to grow outside of my role and within the industry. Within my programme, I have consistent training sessions on topics outside of my typical role, this includes temporary works training or MEP sessions. Along with this, my programme is very collaborative through networking with my peers along with other individuals at Mace.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have been able to develop my existing communication skills in my role, allowing me to understand the complexities of dealing with different communication methods faced in the industry. Along with this I have learnt expanses of new construction knowledge that I did no have before, this is from the exposure to new topics that Mace offer. I have also grown my knowledge on commercial topics such as contracts and reporting/accounting processes.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is well structure across the 5 years, offering monthly training sessions related to new topics. Along with this, I have designate professionals to support me in my role albeit commercial questions or queries regarding my development. The structure and communication lines remain clear and understood consistently.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have plenty of support in the form of consistent communication, along with the support in my first year of a mentor to help me settle into my new role. This is a great way to get involved in the role, as I had already been assigned this prior to starting.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I am supported with my learning through the use of an internal portfolio and presentation that we do. This ensures that I am on track with my qualification and to also flag if there are any areas that I need work on. By flagging areas I would be offered support in these fields or offered potential placements into these areas, for example law.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I learn the fundamentals through my training provider which I can then put into practice in my role. My training provider offers me the knowledge across the wider construction industry outside the sectors that Mace operates in. This enables me to build my knowledge both in work and in university.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Mace offers a variety of extra curricular activities, in the form of networking or Employee resource groups. Typically site teams conduct social events in various forms, a recent one I was invited to was a padel tournament with consultants. This provides me a platform to engage and get my name into the industry.

Yes
Why?
Mace are a supportive company with both personal and professional development, despite the large size of the company there is an extremely supportive nature amongst colleagues. Since starting Mace they have provided me with various opportunities to showcase my skills and share knowledge with the communities we operate in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace Construct?
My biggest piece of advice would be to be your authentic self when applying, this is something that seems to be a standout characteristic of everybody that I have engaged with thus far.
