Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

On a daily basis, I support the commercial management of a live construction project. My tasks include reviewing subcontractor applications for payment, assisting with valuations, and checking variations against the contract to assess entitlement and cost impact. I regularly use Excel and commercial systems to track costs, update payment records, retention schedules, and insurance trackers. I also help prepare commercial correspondence, review contract documents, attend site walks and meetings, and coordinate with subcontractors and internal teams. Alongside this, I balance on‑the‑job learning with apprenticeship coursework and professional development sessions.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme because it gives me full on exposure to the different elements within the construction industry. It also allows me to build my technical knowledge while also building the development of my career through access to support systems

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I can definitely say that my skillset has grown massively since joining the industry. Skills such as excel, presenting and small things such as communication (being able to talk in front of people, and also talk to different people - something I wasn't as good as before).
