Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role as a business analyst apprentice, consists of requirements gathering and elicitation, working with stakeholders and colleagues from various departments, and working with data.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am really enjoying the programme. When I started my apprenticeship my team was very welcoming and I have learnt a lot since joining. My university course is very interesting, and links well to my role as a business analyst. Therefore this enables me to apply the skills I have learnt into the workplace.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt how to use a multitude of new software applications, how to gather and specify requirements, and other core business analysis skills. I have also developed my coding skills and understanding, team working skills, and active listening skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well structured, with support from the apprenticeship team and my line manager. We are given a university study day in which we attend lectures and complete coursework and revision.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is very supportive; I meet the apprenticeship team monthly to discuss progress on the course, and my line manager helps me develop my skills and is supportive of my university work.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The university provide support with our modules, helping us to understand the concepts clearly, and ensuring the coursework brief is clear. The lecturers are very knowledgeable and are willing to answer any questions or queries.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My university course improves my understanding of technical concepts and coding, and other skills which aid in understanding my everyday work. It also helps to improve my analytical mindset.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The BBC apprenticeship team organise monthly socials where you can meet apprentices from different schemes, and there are various networks and events which you can join.

Why?

The BBC is great place to work; everyone is very welcoming and knowledgeable. It has been a very positive and enjoyable experience, where I have been able to develop new skills and improve my knowledge and understanding through both my experience working as a business analyst and my university course

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?

I would recommend you to think about why you would like to work for the BBC, and complete an apprenticeship for the specific role/scheme. Also ensure you understand the job description, and ask questions prior to applying if you have any queries.
In addition, prepare and consider how the apprenticeship scheme links to your prior experience or subjects which you have studied. Overall I would recommend everyone to apply to the BBC as it is an amazing place to work.
