Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

4/5
Changes every day, can be working on a show as a JC (involving tech, editing, reading travel new) or a producer (booking guests, team chats with presenter, writing scripts) , reporting or producing radio specials.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

4/5
I enjoy it a lot, but sometimes find there is a lack of communication/understanding between my employer (the BBC) and my course provider (Bauer Media).

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I've learned a lot o technical skills, such as how to record and edit for radio, as well as other skills such as professional communication and using my voice on air.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
I think it's prety well structured in that it covers a lot of industry areas, but I think there's a lack of communication/understanding between my employer (the BBC) and my course provider (Bauer Media).

How much support do you receive from your employer?

4/5
I typically receive a good level of support, and lots of people have taken time out of their schedules to show/teach me things.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

4/5
They are in contact regularly, but the support/advice isn't always the most clear/easy to understand. Due to most of the training and contact being online, there can be miscommunication. But I do feel that thew course providers are approachable and accomodating.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

3/5
I think it does help to an extent, but only really in that it reinforces things I've already learned in my job role. I feel that often I do things within my job long before we are taught about them by the course provider.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

4/5
The BBC as an organisation offers a huge range of these type of activities, and I have been able to get involved with some virtual extra-curricular projects, such as the Apprentice Community Podcast. However, lots of the activities only take place at bigger bases, such as London, Manchester and Birmingham, so aren't the most accessible.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I think as an organisation they do their best to make sure people feel welcome, included and accommodated for. Being a big organisation, there are lots of opportunities to try things outside of your job role, and I feel as thought the BBC really encourages you to do more than one thing. For example, I like that everyone will at some point write a script, edit something or record on air.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?

Learn about the BBC values before applying
If you're thinking of doing an apprenticeship - apprentices at bigger bases get the benefit of being involved in high-profile, exciting projects, but apprentices at smaller bases get the benefit of having more responsibility given to them and possibly more creative freedom
