Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role is to oversee the apprenticeship programme. I build relationships with training providers, onboard new providers, work with leaders in the organisation to understand learning needs, advertise and recruit for new apprentices. I also support apprentices through their journey. Having completed my own apprenticeship during my time in the role, I can see it from both sides, as a leader and as a learner

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I struggled at times with my apprenticeship, as we all do to an extent. Having being out of education for a long time, it took some time to get in to the rhythm but once I did I thoroughly enjoyed learning and using my brain in a way I hadn't for a while.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

My organisation skills improved along with how I approach certain situations. Rather than going in and explaining my perspective, I find I now ask more questions - seek to understand - to help me understand what people want from me rather than assuming

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very well structured. I always understood what I should be doing and when it was to be completed.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer are very supportive with any form of development. If additional time was needed, it was given. If I needed my leader to help me with evidence, it was available.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I can not fault the training provider. They were outstanding from start to finish. My coach became so much more than a coach, she became a friend. The support from her was second to none and I would not have made it through without her.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It helped to grow my skills and knowledge. I am more confident in my role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I am a member of the ambassador network, a local council employee network - supporting local schools and colleges with work experience placements. I am a founding member of a neurodivergent employee network group to support out ND colleagues and leaders of ND colleagues. As an organisation, we have nominated charities that we fundraise for and I'm currently leading on a fundraising event for a local ADHD charity. As a group, we have quarterly team socials which vary from going for a meal, to escape rooms, arcades and more. Along with these we have an annual festive party and an annual summer party.

Would you recommend Acorn Insurance and Financial Services to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I have been here for 14 year. As an organisation, we are always pushing for further development opportunities for colleagues. They offer decent benefits (pensions, salary sacrifice scheme, EV's etc)

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Acorn Insurance and Financial Services?

Acorn can be a job , if that's what you want but we want our colleagues to have a career and will support everyone to reach their potential. We tend to promote from within so opportunities for progression are plentiful.
