Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
I was involved in a wide variety of tasks. I had to write a blog post on recent market developments on advertising, review different contract clauses and participate in meetings with partners. I had a chance to talk with many different people from the firm across all the department I was interested at any level, from trainees to partners. Finally during the scheme, grad rec organised a series of interesting workshops on personal branding, diversity and on the firm strategy going forward.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The whole process was very transparent. They allowed us to chat with current trainees and associates across many different departments to understand what each department does and what different role entails. We also had a chance to participate in a partners panel during which we could ask partners many different questions. This was really useful to understand how to progress our career and what we could expect from a career in law and a career at RPC

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
The scheme was incredibly useful to understand what skills are crucial for solicitors and to enhance my skills. We had to deliver a presentation on Diversity and Inclusion which was really useful to improve my public speaking and presentation skills. Moreover, I improved my drafting skills by writing blog articles but also drafting amendments for an existing contract. Finally, time management skills is crucial to succeed both during a vacation scheme and in a career as a solicitor and this really helped me during my time at RPC.

THe company culture was great. Everyone is very friendly and willing to help. The open plan structure allows you to interact with trainees, associates and partners. No one feels to important to help you, especially during the scheme. The firm also organises many different socials to promote a friendly and supportive culture. Would you recommend RPC to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RPC
First of all I would recommend taking part in RPC's open days to understand the firm's culture and make sure it fits you. That will also help you to put a foot in the door. Then I would say just spend a lot of time in the online application. Review the grammar and make sure you are concise. For the interview just be yourself be natural, this is literally what the firm looks for, bright people who are also fun to work with.
