Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Working as a CSA, however apprenticeship was to become a Production Chef and progress my career through Compass Group. On a daily basis I maintain military mess areas, and assist the Chefs within the kitchen when required.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoyed this programme. Compass Group offer a range of experiences to apprentices that we maybe would not get the opportunity to experience through another company. On a previous apprenticeship with Compass I got to work at the Brit Awards, this time I did a cooking masterclass, and also a chocolate masterclass in London.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The chocolate masterclass was a completely new experience, which taught many new skills. The cooking masterclass taught me new preparation skills when it came to meats and desserts. My team within Compass guide and teach me new things on a daily basis.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is quiet flexible and works around my day-to-day job. The organisation of this could be a little better when it comes to getting the trainer on site.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My line manager and above are very supportive. My line manager will happily go through any work required to ensure I fully understand it, and assist when needed.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Haven't had any issues contacting them and asking for assistance when needed.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I am more experienced and more confident within the kitchen. I have better skills now that I can showcase and share with the team.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

My unit organise monthly activities that are open to everyone to get involved with. These are usually social activities.

Would you recommend Compass group to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Loads of opportunites within the company. Friendly colleagues and management. I feel comfortable asking for assistance, or if I need further explanation of a task. My colleagues are always around to assist if I am struggling.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Compass group?

Don't be afraid to ask for these experiences, take on board every opportunity that is offered to you and use this to progress yourself through the company.
