Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

3/5
I work within the Project Management Office (PMO), primarily supporting month-end project management activities. On a day-to-day basis, this involves updating project trackers, maintaining documentation, supporting reporting cycles, and ensuring project data is accurate and up to date for month-end deadlines.
My role includes assisting with progress updates, tracking milestones, monitoring risks and issues, and preparing information for project reporting and governance purposes. I work closely with project managers and stakeholders to ensure information is recorded correctly and deadlines are met. This role has helped me gain exposure to project controls, reporting processes, and organisational standards within a live project environment.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

2/5
I find the programme moderately enjoyable, though I do find it challenging at times. The workload can feel heavy, and some aspects of the academic content are confusing, which can make balancing work and study demanding. There are parts of the programme that are useful and relevant to my role; however, the overall structure and volume of material can sometimes be overwhelming.
That said, the programme does provide valuable learning opportunities and practical experience, and I recognise the long-term benefit of gaining both a qualification and workplace experience. With clearer alignment and pacing, I believe I would find the programme more engaging and easier to manage.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Yes, I have learnt a lot of new skills and further developed existing ones through my role and the programme. Examples include:
Project reporting and controls – supporting month-end project management activities, updating trackers, and ensuring accurate reporting against milestones and deadlines.
Data handling and attention to detail – maintaining project documentation, checking data quality, and ensuring consistency across reports.
Time management and prioritisation – balancing month-end deadlines with ongoing tasks and academic study requirements.
Stakeholder communication – working with project managers and team members to gather updates, clarify information, and support reporting needs.
Organisational and administrative skills – managing documentation, keeping records up to date, and following PMO processes and standards.
Understanding of project management principles – gaining practical knowledge of project lifecycles, governance, risks, and issue management.
These skills have helped me become more confident in a PMO environment and better understand how projects are managed in practice.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

2/5
The programme was quite disorganised during the first year, which made it difficult to fully understand expectations and how different elements fit together. This lack of structure was confusing and did set me back initially, as it took time to adjust and gain clarity on requirements, timelines, and how the academic content aligned with the workplace role.
Over time, I have gained a better understanding of the programme and how to manage it more effectively. However, clearer organisation and structure from the outset would have been beneficial and would have helped reduce confusion and improve the overall experience, particularly during the early stages.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

3/5
I receive a limited amount of support from my employer. While there is some support available when required, it can be minimal at times, particularly alongside workload and programme demands. This has meant that I often need to be quite independent in managing my responsibilities and balancing work with my studies.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
I receive a high level of support from my training provider. They provide guidance on coursework and assessments, are responsive to questions, and offer support sessions that help clarify expectations and academic requirements. This has been particularly helpful when managing challenging or unclear elements of the programme.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

3/5
To some extent, the qualification helps me perform better in my role. Certain modules and topics support my understanding of project management concepts and processes, which can be applied to my work. However, not all aspects of the qualification directly align with my day-to-day responsibilities, so the benefit can vary depending on the content being covered.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

1/5
There are limited opportunities for me to get involved in extra-curricular activities. Most social, networking, or professional events are based in London, and as I live several hours away, attending would require significant travel and accommodation costs. As these expenses are not covered, it is not practical or cost-effective for me to participate regularly.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?

No

Why?

No, I would not currently recommend Capgemini to a friend. While there are positive aspects, my experience has highlighted several challenges that would make it difficult to confidently recommend the organisation, particularly for early-career or apprenticeship roles.
These include limited day-to-day support, especially when balancing work responsibilities alongside a demanding degree apprenticeship programme. Additionally, opportunities for engagement beyond core work, such as social or professional networking activities, are largely centred around London. As travel and accommodation costs are not covered, this makes participation impractical for employees who are based further away.
Overall, although the organisation offers valuable experience, the level of support, structure, and accessibility would need to improve for me to feel comfortable recommending it to someone else.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?

My main advice would be to research the role and programme thoroughly before applying, particularly if applying for a degree apprenticeship. It’s important to understand the workload, expectations, and how the academic side will fit alongside day-to-day work, as this can be demanding.
I would also recommend being proactive and comfortable with a level of independence, as support can be limited at times. Strong time management and organisational skills are essential, especially during busy periods such as month-end or assessment deadlines.
For those not based in London, it’s worth considering the location of teams, events, and extra-curricular opportunities, as many activities are London-centric and may involve personal travel and accommodation costs.
Overall, Capgemini can offer useful experience, but it suits individuals who are self-motivated, adaptable, and clear on what they want to gain from the role and programme.
