Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
Day to day, my role involves carrying out a wide range of systems engineering activities in my position as a UNIX Engineer supporting client accounts. I am responsible for managing incidents, changes, and service requests, ensuring systems are operating reliably and in line with agreed service levels. A key part of my role is troubleshooting and resolving technical issues affecting the servers I manage, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
Alongside my operational responsibilities, I am completing an external apprenticeship programme through QA, which supports my ongoing learning and professional development. Through this programme, I am gaining industry‑recognised qualifications and strengthening my technical knowledge and practical skills.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I really enjoy my programme. Every day brings something new, which keeps the work engaging and allows me to continuously learn and develop.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I joined Capgemini with no prior IT experience, and since starting, I have developed a wide range of new skills. Everyone at Capgemini is extremely helpful and supportive of my development, which has made learning much easier. There are many resources available, making it easy to build both technical knowledge and confidence.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
The programme is very well organised and structured. It is particularly well suited for young individuals who are eager to start a career in IT, as it provides clear guidance and progression from the outset.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I receive all the support I need from my employer, both in my day-to-day role and with my ongoing development.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
My training provider is very supportive and always makes themselves available whenever I need help or guidance with my qualifications

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
I feel that my qualification strongly complements my role. I am currently progressing through a DevOps course, which aligns well with my day-to-day responsibilities as a systems engineer and helps me better understand the tools and processes I work with.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
There is always something going on within the apprenticeship community, whether that is after‑work social gatherings, planned events, or opportunities to connect with others across the business.
