Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
As a Functional Consultant, my day-to-day role involves working closely with clients to understand the challenges they face and helping to design and deliver effective solutions using the Salesforce platform. I regularly engage with stakeholders to gather requirements, clarify business needs, and ensure that the solutions being built align with their expectations and objectives.
On a daily basis, I use Salesforce to configure and build solutions that meet client requirements, making sure they are delivered correctly and follow best practice. This includes translating business requirements into functional designs, supporting development, and validating that the final solution meets the client’s needs.
Through this apprenticeship, I have developed strong hands-on experience with Salesforce and gained a deeper understanding of how technology can be used to solve real-world business problems. Learning a new platform has significantly expanded my technical knowledge and skill set, and these skills will be valuable as I continue to progress in my career. The role has also helped me improve my communication, problem-solving, and client-facing skills, which are essential for a consultant.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I really enjoy my programme and find it both rewarding and engaging. One of the aspects I value most is the balance between work and university, particularly the periods spent on campus. These give me the opportunity to socialise, collaborate with others, and build relationships with fellow apprentices and graduates, which enhances the overall experience.
Being part of the Early and Emerging Talent community has also had a very positive impact. It creates a strong sense of belonging and support, ensuring that apprentices and graduates feel welcomed and never isolated. The environment is inclusive, friendly, and encouraging, which has helped me settle into both my role and the wider organisation.
I genuinely enjoy my job and the work I do day to day. The people I work with are welcoming and supportive, and I feel comfortable asking questions and learning from others. Through my role, I have learned a lot both professionally and technically, while also working towards a degree. Overall, the programme has been extremely enjoyable and has played a significant role in my personal and career development.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Yes, I have developed a wide range of new skills and strengthened existing ones throughout my programme. One of the key areas of development has been my technical skills, particularly my hands-on experience with the Salesforce platform. I now use Salesforce daily and have learned how to configure and build solutions that meet client requirements, ensuring they follow best practice and are aligned with business needs.
In my role as a Functional Consultant, I have significantly improved my problem-solving skills by analysing client challenges and translating them into effective functional solutions. I have also developed my requirement‑gathering skills, learning how to ask the right questions, document requirements clearly, and validate that solutions meet client expectations.
Alongside technical skills, I have strengthened several professional and transferable skills. My communication skills have improved through regular client interactions and collaboration with team members, enabling me to explain technical solutions in a clear and approachable way. I have also developed strong teamwork skills by working closely with colleagues across different roles and projects.
Additionally, balancing work alongside my degree apprenticeship has enhanced my time management and organisational skills. Overall, this programme has allowed me to grow both technically and professionally, providing a strong foundation for my future career.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
My programme is very well organised and structured, which has made it much easier to balance work and university commitments. There are clearly defined periods where I am based on campus, allowing me to fully focus on my studies without the added pressure of client work during those times. This structured approach helps reduce stress and ensures that both academic and professional responsibilities can be managed effectively.
The programme also provides strong support around university commitments, including the opportunity to take study leave when needed. This flexibility is particularly valuable during busy academic periods, as it allows extra time to prepare for assessments and coursework while still feeling supported by the organisation.
Overall, everything is well planned and communicated, from university schedules to work expectations. The combination of clear structure, flexibility, and supportive management ensures that I feel well supported throughout the programme and able to succeed in both my role and my degree apprenticeship.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer, both professionally and personally. From day one, I have felt well looked after and supported throughout my apprenticeship. My managers and colleagues are approachable and always willing to offer guidance, answer questions, and provide help when needed.
There is strong understanding and encouragement around balancing work with university responsibilities, including flexibility when required and access to study leave. I also receive ongoing support in my role, with regular check-ins, feedback, and opportunities to learn and develop my skills.
Overall, the level of support has made a significant difference to my experience on the programme. It has helped me feel confident in my role, supported in my studies, and motivated to continue developing both professionally and academically.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
I receive a high level of support from my training provider while working towards my qualifications. There are regular check-ins every few months, which provide an opportunity to discuss how I am progressing both academically and professionally. These catch-ups help ensure that everything is on track and allow any concerns or challenges to be addressed early.
The check-ins are also focused on my development, making sure I am gaining the required skills and knowledge from my role to support my qualification. Guidance is always available if I need additional support with coursework, deadlines, or balancing work and study.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

4/5
I feel that my qualification strongly supports and enhances my performance in my role. The learning provided by my training provider links academic knowledge with practical, real‑world application, which helps me better understand and carry out my day‑to‑day responsibilities as a Functional Consultant.
One key example is learning about user stories at university and how to write them effectively. This is now something I use daily in my role when working with clients and internal teams. Understanding how to structure clear, well-defined user stories has helped me translate business requirements into practical Salesforce solutions and communicate requirements more effectively with stakeholders and developers.
The qualification has also reinforced important skills such as problem‑solving, requirement analysis, and professional communication. Being able to apply what I learn through my studies directly into my work has been extremely beneficial. Overall, the qualification complements my on-the-job learning very well and has helped me become more confident, efficient, and effective in my role while working towards a degree.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

4/5
Yes, there are plenty of extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work. The company regularly organises social events such as Christmas parties, after-work socials, and project team socials, which are a great way to connect with colleagues outside of day-to-day work and build strong relationships.
In addition to organised events, employees are encouraged to take initiative and start their own communities or activities. If there is a particular social or sports activity you are interested in, such as starting a sports team, there is support to create this and invite others to get involved. This helps promote inclusion, teamwork, and a positive workplace culture.
Overall, there is a strong emphasis on social engagement and networking, and these activities contribute to a welcoming and enjoyable working environment.
