Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role involves vehicle testing on current and future vehicles from an electrical perspective. This involves both rig based and vehicle testing. This involved learning programmes required to interface with vehicles as well as learning tool required.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
Word is different enough on a day to day based but tests can prove to be repetitive. Additionally, the day in office vary greatly from week to week. Work can often end up being delayed due to other areas of business function.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learn skill concerning electrically interfacing with vehicles and what to put into place to cause a vehicle to act in a specific way. Additionally, working on said vehicles improves soft electrical skills like soldering, machining and probes testing. Soft skills are also developed throughout the programme such as communication and time management.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme has a general structure to help progress apprentices. However to reach this end goal it is largely down to the team and manager the apprentice is placed into.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The employer provides support in the form of early careers pastoral teams that have semi frequent 1 to 1 to discuss progress. As well as this many teams provided buddies, however once again this is dependent in the team you are placed into.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
WMG provides external support sessions where q&as are run. As well as this lecturers tend to be decently responsive and helpful. Something that would be good would be a mentorship or buddy programme with older students.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
Since the first 2 years of the course are a general professional engineering degree, it feels very easy for the course to start feeling generic and not very useful, with some modules feeling like they are there as box tickers rather than to teach information important to my role. There is a hope in the more specialised 3&4th years that this sentiment will change.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There is a wealth of extra-curricular activities, there is an early careers network constantly hosting events as well as many various sports networks throughout the company. There is also more long term groups like driven that provide different opportunities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The company is diverse and provide many different opportunities into different paths of engineering. Within the company most are friendly and helpful making networking and opportunity spotting easy. Though programme enjoyment can vary greatly depending on the team placed into originally, if spoken about to the correct people attempts will be made to move you. Overall the benefits of working for the company greatly outweigh any negatives that may occur
