Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
As a Work‑Based Learning Manager, I am responsible for the strategic oversight, coordination, and quality assurance of work‑based learning programmes, including apprenticeships and other accredited training pathways. My role focuses on ensuring that learners, employers, and delivery teams are supported to achieve successful outcomes, while maintaining compliance with funding, regulatory, and quality standards.
On a day‑to‑day basis, I manage and support a team involved in the delivery of work‑based learning, providing guidance on curriculum delivery, assessment, and learner progress. I oversee learner journeys from onboarding through to completion, monitoring performance data, progress reviews, and achievement rates to identify risks and drive continuous improvement. This includes working closely with employers, line managers, and mentors to ensure learning is embedded effectively in the workplace and aligned to organisational and professional requirements.
I am also responsible for quality assurance activities such as observations, audits of learner files, preparation for inspections or reviews, and ensuring compliance with awarding bodies, funding rules, and internal policies. Regular liaison with internal stakeholders ensures that programmes align with workforce development priorities and support organisational skills needs. Alongside this, I contribute to service planning, reporting, policy development, and the continuous improvement of work‑based learning provision.
Overall, my role balances strategic planning, operational management, stakeholder engagement, and quality assurance to ensure high‑quality, impactful work‑based learning outcomes.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I enjoy my Degree Chartered Manager Apprenticeship to a great extent, as it directly complements my role and allows me to apply theory to real‑world practice. The programme has enhanced my understanding of leadership, management theory, and organisational strategy, and I find the opportunity to reflect critically on my own practice particularly valuable. Learning activities such as assignments, projects, and professional discussions encourage me to evaluate my decision‑making, leadership style, and impact within my organisation.
I value the structure of the programme, which balances academic learning with practical application, and I appreciate how it supports my professional development while enabling me to continue in my role. The programme has increased my confidence as a manager and has provided me with tools and frameworks that I actively use in my day‑to‑day work, particularly around people management, performance improvement, and strategic thinking.
While balancing work, study, and personal commitments can be challenging at times, I find the programme rewarding and motivating overall, as it supports both my current practice and my long‑term career aspirations.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Yes, I have developed both new skills and strengthened existing ones through the programme. In particular, I have enhanced my strategic thinking and ability to analyse organisational issues using management theories and evidence‑based frameworks. This has supported me to take a more structured and reflective approach to decision‑making and problem‑solving within my role.
I have also developed my leadership and people management skills, including communication, coaching, and performance management. The programme has increased my confidence in leading teams, managing change, and having constructive professional conversations. Additionally, I have strengthened my skills in self‑reflection, critical evaluation, and professional judgement, enabling me to assess my own leadership style and identify areas for continuous improvement.
Other key areas of development include project management, stakeholder engagement, and the effective use of data to monitor performance and drive improvement. Overall, the programme has supported my growth as a more confident, knowledgeable, and effective manager, with skills that I actively apply in my day‑to‑day practice.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
Overall, the programme is well organised and clearly structured, with defined modules that align effectively to the Chartered Manager Apprenticeship standards. The sequencing of learning allows for a logical progression, building from core management theories to more strategic and applied concepts, which supports both academic understanding and practical application in the workplace.
The schedule of teaching sessions, assessments, and reviews is clearly communicated, helping me to plan my workload and manage competing priorities between work and study. Key milestones, such as assignments, end‑point assessment preparation, and skills reviews, are well signposted, and regular check‑ins provide opportunities to reflect on progress and identify any support needs.
While balancing work responsibilities alongside study can be demanding at times, the overall structure of the programme supports independent learning and professional development. The blend of academic delivery, work‑based projects, and reflective activities is effective and enables meaningful application of learning within my role.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I receive an exceptionally high level of support from my employer throughout my apprenticeship. My organisation is fully committed to my development and actively prioritises my learning as part of my role. Dedicated time is protected for off‑the‑job learning, study, and completion of assignments, which enables me to engage meaningfully with the programme without compromising my work responsibilities.
I am well supported by my line manager, who takes a genuine interest in my progress and regularly discusses my learning, development objectives, and how my studies link directly to my role and wider organisational goals. I am encouraged to apply new knowledge and skills in practice, and opportunities are actively created for me to lead initiatives, contribute strategically, and develop my leadership capability.
The organisation also provides access to relevant resources, professional discussions, and mentoring, which further enhances my learning experience. There is a strong culture of continuous development, and the apprenticeship is clearly valued as a key part of workforce development rather than an add‑on. Overall, the support I receive enables me to succeed both academically and professionally and has had a positive impact on my confidence, performance, and effectiveness as a manager.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
I receive an excellent level of support from my training provider throughout my programme. Support is consistent, structured, and responsive, enabling me to progress confidently through my qualifications. Clear guidance is provided on coursework requirements, assessment criteria, and programme expectations, which helps me to plan effectively and stay on track.
I have regular contact with tutors and skills coaches who are approachable, knowledgeable, and supportive. They provide timely feedback on assignments and progress, helping me to reflect critically, identify development areas, and build on my strengths. Progress reviews are well‑organised and meaningful, ensuring my academic learning remains aligned with my work‑based role and professional goals.
The training provider also offers accessible learning resources, structured teaching sessions, and tailored support when required. Communication is clear and proactive, and any queries or concerns are addressed promptly. Overall, the level of support I receive significantly enhances my learning experience and enables me to achieve high‑quality outcomes while balancing work and study commitments.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
The qualification supports my performance in my role very effectively by providing structure, professional credibility, and a strong evidence base for my management practice. It has helped me to validate and strengthen the decisions I make in my role, ensuring they are informed by recognised management standards, ethical leadership principles, and current best practice rather than solely experience or intuition.
The programme has enhanced my ability to articulate and justify my approach to leadership, workforce development, and operational decision‑making, particularly when engaging with senior stakeholders and external partners. The qualification has also helped me adopt a more consistent, assured, and measured approach to managing complexity, change, and competing priorities within a demanding work‑based learning environment.
Importantly, the training provider supports the translation of academic learning into professional assurance, enabling me to operate with increased confidence, clarity, and accountability. This has had a positive impact on the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of my management practice and has strengthened my professional identity as a Chartered Manager in development.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes, there are a range of extra‑curricular opportunities available within my organisation. These include professional networking events, staff development forums, and opportunities to engage in cross‑departmental working groups and projects. These activities encourage collaboration, knowledge‑sharing, and professional relationship‑building across teams and services.
There are also wellbeing and social initiatives available, which support staff engagement and promote a positive workplace culture. Participation in these activities is encouraged and supports both personal wellbeing and professional development.
Overall, the organisation provides opportunities beyond core job responsibilities that allow staff to connect, develop professionally, and contribute to a supportive and inclusive work environment.
