Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a huge amount both as part of the formal university degree and practically whilst at work. The work experience is really valuable as I am able to learn from real life applications of tasks rather than theory or exercises set by a professor.

I am the only apprentice on my course, in my year, for my department.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer provides me with time to study but has little knowledge of what the programme involves.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support from the university for the degree is excellent, tutors and the apprentice advisors always respond to my emails. However the university has little understanding of my work commitments. Communication between the employer and training provider is poor.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Yes
Why?
The course is very intense but highly rewarding. You are given a lot of responsibility from day one and can see the projects you work on in the news!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Home Office?
Really show your passion for Economics and your willingness to learn. Make sure you write an application that demonstrates how you have shown the Civil Service behaviours in the past. Use the STAR format to give examples in your application and at interview.
