Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am currently on a rotational degree apprenticeship, and I am in the European Office Paid Media team. The European Office is responsible for acting as communication and management between our HQ in Suwon and other Samsung European subsidiaries. My day to day role involves working with our agency on data and media governance. I also am responsible for checking our Post-Campaign-Analysis reports (which come after each of our marketing campaigns) to demonstrate to the business how well our campaign performed. I have also been responsible for creating resources and ways of working to improve cooperation of our European subsidiaries in filing issue tickets with our in-house digital media monitoring tool.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
My programme has been extremely fulfilling and full of opportunities. I have currently experienced 3 different teams in digital marketing, and my experience in each has helped me form connections and approach tasks with understanding from different fields of marketing. Samsung is an extremely accommodating company and an amazing brand to work for. It provides ample opportunities to Emerging Talent such as apprentices to work on senior projects and contribute to real business outcomes, where other companies may not trust junior members with such responsibilities. Samsung is one of the best places to work for and begin your early career at as an apprentice, and the company and Emerging Talent team truly make your experience as an apprentice unique and high-growth.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned and developed a wide breadth of skills within the 3 teams I have been in so far at Samsung.
New hard skills I have developed include:
* (PUBLIC RELATIONS TEAM) Crisis management, Newsroom article writing, event management, event organisation, crisis communications, webinar hosting, webinar organisation, media management, influencer management
* (CONSUMER MARKET INSIGHTS TEAM) Market analysis, market research, research report creation, consumer social media listening, consumer social media intelligence, competitor analysis, competitor research, understanding stakeholder briefs, influencer management, working with senior stakeholders
* (PAID MEDIA TEAM) Digital media brief creation for agencies, JIRA platform management and operation, data and media governance interpretation and operation, Meta Ads Media Planning, Google Ads operation, Google Ads Creative, business brief writing in the Paid Media team
Soft skills that I have developed significantly include:
* Public speaking
* Time management
* Teamwork
* Communication
* Business update hosting
* Integrity
* Security compliance
* Will to learn
* Organisation
* Respect
* Communication with external agencies

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very well structured, and was made clear from when I first received the job description. It consists of 4 days working full time at my job in a week, with 1 day spent in university. If I need to clarify anything, I am able to contact the Emerging Talent team who are very supportive and accommodating.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have ample support from my employer, as well as my university support team. I have my line manager, employee resource groups, as well as the Emerging Talent team at Samsung so I am not short of options at all if I need support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My lecturers are extremely helpful in my modules, and respond to emails very punctually. We also have a contact that links the university to my employer, so I am able to comfortably talk to them about any concerns I have with my training. We are given many resources in our modules, including extra reading, lecture recordings, additional useful articles, videos and journal entries. We are also given clear deadlines for assignments, and personally I really appreciate having a 100% coursework apprenticeship which means that I have no exams.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
With some of my modules, I have seen many clear connections between what I have studied and how it materialises in the real workplace. For example, studying a Public Relations module at university has further consolidated my rotation that I completed in the Public Relations team at work. It also allowed me to understand the underlying theory of why certain tasks are completed in Public Relations. In the Consumer Market Insights team, two modules that I had completed in market research was supported by my prior experience in the team in my workplace. I believe that this backing theory that I learn at university makes me contribute more as an apprentice, both at work and at university.
Although I have seen many links between my university study and work, I would like it if there were more modules at university that directly linked to work. For example, a module that purely focuses on the importance and theory surrounding organic and paid media.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Samsung has a range of ERGs (Employee Resource Groups). We recently had a cricket team established at Samsung which participates in the local Surrey cricket league. We also have a range of Employee Resource Groups, such as Women @ Samsung, True Ability, Black Professionals and Muslims at Samsung. Women @ Samsung occasionally host networking events, and all ERG groups are open to all

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Samsung Electronics to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Samsung is a very fast paced, dynamic and innovative organisation. It is very accommodating especially for junior members like apprentices, and the culture makes you feel very supported. The high speed that the organisation moves in means you develop and grow very quickly, and forces you to build skills properly and adapt which is important as an apprentice.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Samsung Electronics?
* Be yourself, it can be very easy to tell if you aren't
* Ensure you demonstrate the business core values which can be found on the Samsung.com website
* Reach out to those already working at the organisation and try to learn more about what it's like to work there. Don't just reach out to apprentices, try to reach out to regular employees too
* Be as creative and innovative as you can
* Do your passion justice and try to demonstrate how much you love the field or role you are applying for or to
* Put in extra effort and go the extra mile when researching the company, this will show in the majority of the stages in your application. Putting extra effort here means that you'll be seen as contributing more to the business if you're hired
