Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
On a day-to-day basis, I support the running of the business through performing administrative and project-management related tasks. My role involves supporting my manager and team through producing and maintaining accurate documents and records, managing meetings and correspondence, supporting business processes and handling enquiries. The role has ample opportunity for further learning, and there are a variety of tasks with varying degrees of challenge.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The programme is well-organised, rewarding and appropriately challenging. There are many opportunities for learning and the programme has supported my understanding of day to day business operations, while expanding my knowledge of business management, finance and change. Expectations are clearly defined and I enjoy my programme delivery days.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
The programme has given me a strong foundation in business administration and day to day business operations. I have more confidence in my communication skills, and I am able to problem-solve more effectively and manage my time more efficiently. I have developed key administration-related IT skills, and I am much more skilled in producing high-quality and accurate documents and records.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very well structured and organised. There are clear expectations, not only for us on the programme, but also what we can expect from people supporting the programme. Delivery days are informative and comprehensive, and our learning pathway is clearly mapped out in an easy to understand way.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Those supporting the programme are well-trained on how to support us during our learning. Programme leaders are easy to reach and there are steps in place to support our learning no matter our circumstances. My employer has numerous resources for mental health, safeguarding and reporting concerns, and they promote a speak-up culture. From experience, when a concern was identified, ample support was available and it was thoroughly investigated.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The programme does their training in-house and the team are very knowledgeable on which knowledge, skills and behaviours we are required to develop during our learning period as part of our scheme. They are very supportive in ensuring that we are continuously learning and they ensure that we have access to the required resources.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Before beginning my programme, my knowledge of business as a whole was very poor. My training provider and the qualification are greatly improving my performance in my role by enabling me to understand why my role is important and how it contributes to the business. I have a greater understanding of how businesses operate and I use this knowledge to improve my work. I am able to understand, analyse and apply business processes and identify improvements.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are a multitude of networking events, particularly in the early career area, but also within the wider business. There is always a drive for knowledge sharing, and fundraising events are commonplace. There are some social activities and sport teams, although these can be area-dependent. Events, groups and networking opportunities are ample but require the individual to be proactive in seeking them out.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I applied to BAE Systems after hearing a friend's experience on an adjacent programme. They spoke very highly of their programme and I could tell that they loved working for BAE Systems. I moved a great distance to take the opportunity, and despite being initially unsettled at such a large move and career change, I have no regrets in taking the opportunity. I have learnt more in the short time I have been on this programme than I did in my years of previous work in a different field.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
BAE Systems looks for those who embrace its' values. They look for those who show commitment and do the right thing. For those who have a drive to continuously learn and who can bring innovative ideas. BAE Systems encourages diverse thinking and seizing opportunities. Be yourself when you apply, rather than trying to tick a list of checkboxes. Work and education experiences from unrelated fields are valuable when paired with motivation and a clear drive to learn.
