Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
working in different department doing placements around the engineering function. The work apprentices do is all real work with real deadlines and stakeholders. The work could be design, quality, testing, manufacturing, analysis, and many other areas, all of which are covered during the apprenticeship placements.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I think MBDA do an amazing apprenticeship, they look after the apprentices well and there are many opportunities for us to get involved in throughout the business.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
CAD design, Testlab, Microsoft, presenting, giving and receiving feedback, teamworking

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well structured. We rotate between placements lasting 3 to 9 months, meaning we get to experience all different sides of engineering. There are apprentice residentials, multiple stages of the onboarding and induction process, and regular events for those at the start of their career to improve their skills and network.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There is a dedicated HR team that support the apprentices, and they offer great support to us and to those within the business that are placement managers for apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
University of Hertfordshire are good at dealing with apprentices, but often need reminding that we are also working a full time job alongside the degree, which inhibits our ability to perform certain actions such as attending revision sessions outside of our day release day.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
A mechanical engineering degree is useful in my role as it helps to understand the theory behind a lot of processes we have, as well as helping to understand engineering fundamentals.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there are lots of extra curriculars. There are many sports teams, there are societies such as gender equality, disability network, and neurodiversity, there are events such as roadshows and live q&a sessions where we can meet lots of people in the company.
