How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a lot of support from my line manager and team, the atmosphere provided by the company and my team was one that is inclusive and increased my confidence to ask questions where my knowledge and experience lacked, which I believe greatly benefitted my growth. The investment of time and effort into Early Career Professionals also created an environment where I felt supported and welcomed, and I felt that I was part of a community that fostered growth.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
As a young woman, I was slightly nervous about joining a Civil Engineering company, due to preconceptions about the gender imbalance across the industry, but Mott Macdonald creates a supportive and inclusive network that actually celebrates its diversity and inclusivity which was very important to me. As a company it creates an environment that supports its 'Early Career Professionals ' and as a new starter in the Newcastle office I felt instantly welcomed. My team was very supportive and I felt comfortable asking questions and engaging with people across the team, and wider office. The company also invests time and effort into various charities, and offers engagement such as litter picks, toy drives, and involvement with local charities.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I greatly enjoyed my placement and had the opportunity to work with a real range of employees across the company, the work itself I found enjoyable and beneficial to my development of skills. Overall I believe the people I worked with really made the job enjoyable for me and the social environment created by the wider company and my local office. As a company Mott Macdonald invests in wellbeing which was really prevalent as an employee, I joined the Office hiking club and attended several wellbeing and inclusivity events held at my local office and felt this really made my experience memorable and enjoyable for me.
