Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Very enjoyable role providing excellent opportunity for career development through variety of schemes, sectors and responsibilities. As a QS, the role focusses heavily on the commercial side of construction projects, from cost planning to certifying payments, along with tendering and Contractual procedures.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Both developed existing skills and learnt a range of new skills. The programme helps to increase the likes of communication and organisational skills, whilst also promoting new industry specific skills related to the role, such as utilising specialist measurement software.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Monaghans provide a well established process that increases development throughout the 5-year course, providing appropriate levels of responsibility from day one, with the understanding additional support is available whenever required.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Monaghans provide a well structured and supportive environment to succeed enabling appropriate time to complete university work, alongside work duties. This was particularly apparent during final year and preparing my dissertation.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

SHU were very supportive for me personally, and played a pivotal role in helping me secure this role.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Having the balance of classroom learning along side hands-on experience is invaluable and allows theoretical skills to be put into practice from an early stage.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Monaghans encourage social activities, sporting events and networking throughout all levels of the business. Regular social activities are organised, along with Monaghans taking part in football leagues. The social and extra curricular side of the company is a key strength.

Monaghans have developed a culture that is supportive, rewarding and encourages growth. Whilst responsibility is given at an early stage, this comes alongside the company always ensuring individuals have the support and tools required to meet such requirements.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Monaghans Limited?
Openness to working within a wider team environment is key. Whilst individuals may work on separate projects, or accounts, the wider Monaghans team are always working collaboratively to achieve the best standard possible.
