Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I am in a design role which involves calculations and CAD modelling.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a good amount of responsibility as I needed security clearance and was trusted to work on projects in the nuclear sector.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

My skills using CAD and doing calculations have developed a lot and I have done work that is more challenging than what I've covered at university. I have learnt how to write risk assessments for a project. I have been given a wide variety of task to help me develop in multiple areas.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I have received a lot of support during my placement. I am able to ask anyone in the office for help if needed. I have regular check ins with my line manager to check my progress and if I need support with anything.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company has a good atmosphere, relatively relaxed with a good work-life balance. Good place to work.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

Overall I enjoyed my placement and got good experience. The one downside was it took a while to get on actual project work due to issues with resourcing.
