Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a Level 3 Business Administration apprentice in the BBC’s Organisational Strategies team, I support strategic projects that help shape BBC News. Day-to-day, I work closely with senior strategy consultants and collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation.
My role includes coordinating projects, preparing presentations and documents, supporting stakeholder communications, and contributing to research that informs key decisions. Being involved in meetings and discussions gives me valuable insight into how large-scale strategies are developed and delivered.
What makes this role especially rewarding is the support from my team—they prioritise my development, give me exposure to different areas of the business, and equip me with the skills to confidently contribute to stakeholder-facing work. It’s a fast-paced, engaging experience that has been incredibly valuable for my growth.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I absolutely love my apprenticeship programme. It strikes such a perfect balance between meaningful, hands-on work and exciting opportunities designed specifically for apprentices. Alongside my day-to-day role, I’ve been able to take part in a wide range of apprentice events and connect with colleagues from across the BBC, all of which give a real, behind-the-scenes insight into the world of media.
What makes it even more enjoyable is how supportive and welcoming everyone is—people genuinely want apprentices to succeed and make the most of every opportunity. I’ve been able to explore different areas of the organisation, meet inspiring professionals, and build connections that go far beyond my immediate team.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I’ve built my project management capabilities and gained experience working in agile environments, which has improved how I plan, prioritise, and collaborate on tasks.
I’ve also significantly advanced my PowerPoint and Excel skills, enabling me to create more impactful presentations and work more efficiently with data. A highlight has been the opportunity to become an AI representative for my team, where I help educate colleagues and promote the use of AI tools in our work. This has boosted my confidence and allowed me to take on a more proactive, leadership-focused role within the team.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Regular check-ins, supportive managers, and well-planned apprentice events ensure that I always feel guided and supported. The structure makes it easy to understand expectations, manage my workload, and make the most of every opportunity.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive an exceptional level of support from my employer. My team and wider colleagues are incredibly approachable, always willing to offer guidance, answer questions, and invest time in my development.
Regular check-ins and ongoing feedback help me stay on track, while the wider BBC network provides additional support through apprentice events and learning opportunities. I’m consistently encouraged to step outside my comfort zone, take on new challenges, and grow my skillset, knowing I have a strong support system behind me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The support from my training provider is varied. There are limited contact hours, so much of the learning is self-directed, which requires a good level of independence and motivation.
However, there are some valuable elements, such as practical, applied group sessions delivered online, which help bring the content to life. The recorded sessions are also particularly useful, as they allow me to revisit topics in my own time.
One of the strongest aspects is the feedback on assignments, which is detailed, constructive, and genuinely helpful for improving my work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification supports my performance in my role by reinforcing key skills such as organisation, communication, and project management. It provides a useful foundation that complements the practical experience I gain in the workplace.
While much of the learning is self-directed, it encourages me to apply what I learn directly to my day-to-day responsibilities, which helps strengthen my understanding. The practical elements and assignment feedback are particularly valuable in helping me improve and refine my approach.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are a range of extra-curricular opportunities to get involved in. As an apprentice, I’ve had the chance to take part in initiatives such as apprentice podcasts and outreach events, which have been both enjoyable and rewarding.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would highly recommend the BBC to a friend. It provides all the essential training and skills needed to develop professionally, within an environment that focuses on genuine improvement rather than competition.
There is a strong emphasis on learning, growth, and creating meaningful opportunities, which makes it a supportive and motivating place to start a career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
My main advice would be to be flexible and open to opportunities across the organisation. The BBC is a large and diverse place to work, so showing a willingness to explore different areas and take on new challenges will really help you stand out.
It’s also important to do your research on the company. Understanding the BBC’s values, its role in the media industry, and the kind of work different teams do will help you demonstrate genuine interest and align your application to what they’re looking for.
