Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Handling enquiries, attending events, answering emails, reaching out to external partnerships, leading calls with charities, organising CSR days, admin and preparation for events/programmes.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme based on the culture of the company, and the environment within the offices. For example, moving up to Manchester on my own at 19 required a lot of support from the firm and the people around me, and I received that support without question. I have received many opportunities for skills and career growth, such as taking on more responsibilities, and I get the opportunity to attend events and travel around the UK offices, which I value highly.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt and built on copious amounts of skills throughout both work and my apprenticeship as I have gone through topics such as project management, fundraising, principles of CSR, and budgeting. Throughout this time, I have also had many opportunities to build on my written and verbal communication with different audiences, and tailoring based on who is on the receiving end. My confidence has also undoubtably improved through being believed in by my colleagues, and exposed to new opportunities that have enrichened my skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is structured well with defined hours for me to study/ complete assignments within my apprenticeship. I take 6 hours a week to work on my apprenticeship work, which is undisturbed; my team is extremely supportive of my study time and helps me where they can, which helps with the structure of my time as I know how to use my time effectively. I also have recurring calls with my apprenticeship coach, which are put into my diary well in advance so I'm fully aware of when I need to be available.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive large amounts of support, especially from my team. As previously mentioned, in my contract I am expected to do a minimum of 6 hours a week in off the job hours, which helps me with balancing my work and study, as the firm and my team have been transparent of how much time they expect me to take off. My team is very understanding of my arrangements, such as not contacting me during my study time, and keeping things moving when I am not in work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider is very proactive in supporting me as an apprentice and a person as she offers one-on-one calls if we need some extra help, or want to ask any questions. She is also available on email and has prompt replies when asked about specifications for the assignments for example. We have bi-weekly calls to check in with my cohort of apprentices, which is an opportunity for my coach to check on our OTJH, how we're feeling, and where we are at with our assignments.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification has clearly been relevant to my role as I am taught methods and concepts which I practice in a day-to-day setting, such as project management. My apprenticeship highlights more of the academic side, such as formal processes of Gantt charts and similar topics, which aren't directly used in my role, but the components are. This has enabled me to make links between my work and apprenticeship, which doesn't only help me perform better in my role, but also in my apprenticeship as I have worked on topics such as Managing Projects, Budgets, Business Structures etc.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many extra-curricular opportunities such as CSR days, outreach events and programmes, apprentice socials, and more. These allow opportunities of networking and building on skills, whether that be specific to CSR or not. For example, I joined the ICRS as my apprenticeship provider allows me to join for free, I have attended virtual events with CSR professionals who discuss their horizon scanning, and specific aspects of CSR that would be useful for people earlier in their careers to know.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Addleshaw Goddard to a friend?
Yes
Why?
As my first corporate setting, I feel as though I have gotten extremely fortunate with the firm I have joined. The culture of the firm, and the flexibility in my role has made my experience seamless and valuable; as a young person moving to a new city alone and joining my first corporate job, I have received kindness and support from both my team, and colleagues in different teams. Early Careers have made effort to integrate the apprentices into the firm by arranging socials, conferences, and calls to get us all talking to each other, and supporting one another.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Addleshaw Goddard?
Like any firm, how you articulate yourself and apply your skills and experience to the role you're applying for is crucial to applying to Addleshaw Goddard, however, I have noticed that the firm values adaptability from applicants, how would you manage difficult situations, or change, and the attitude you bring to learning and growing within the firm. Having motivation and discipline within your character is extremely valuable to any employer, your skills and experience mean one thing, but your personality/attributes makes you a great candidate.
