Overall Rating

3.9 /5

3.6/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
The role and responsibilities depend on what year you are in, as they become more complex as you progress through the apprenticeship. They are also hugely impacted by what team you are in within TST, but broadly for the first 2 years you are treated as equivalent to a paralegal in whatever team you are in, and for the 3rd and 4th year you are closer to a high level or senior paralegal. Years 5 and 6 see you join the trainee cohort so the role is identical to that of a trainee.
Tasks involve reviewing and drafting documents, legal research, transaction management, post-completion work, running searches, assisting with business development and bids.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
There is a big focus on development of both hard and soft skills, with constant training sessions and development programmes being integrated into the apprenticeship

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme has been running for a very long time now so the structure is tried and tested.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Support is generally good, although sometimes can depend on the team you are in and/ or the manager you have, as some understand the apprenticeship more than others.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
BPP are objectively dreadful with providing support - they have recently introduced an online query form which you are told to use for absolutely everything, but has a limited number of categories and topics, none of which are actually relevant most of the time. Responsiveness once a query has been submitted is ineffective, and I have personally had a number of issues with BPP simply "passing the blame around" and directing me to countless different teams before saying they can't help me and I should raise the issue with my firm internally to raise with their relationship manager. It adds so much unnecessary stress to what is already such a demanding programme. Coursework coaches are hit or miss and seem to be replaced almost every term, although some are really helpful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are countless extra-curriculars and wider contribution opportunities, relating to D&I, environment and CSR, networking etc, and there is an Apprentice Society for apprentices to network.
