Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role as an Apprentice QS is diverse. As I am based on site, my daily tasks can range from quantification and measurement, site surveys / online surveys, cost reporting and forecasting, payment processing through to client / subcontractor interactions.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Working with B&K through my programme has been refreshing and I feel a sense of belonging here. Starting my apprenticeship elsewhere has really opened my eyes to what I find important in an employer, and B&K have provided me with support and confidence to excel in my career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have massively developed my knowledge of the industry in my time at B&K, such as earthworks and groundworks where I have never been given the opportunity to take control of previously. I have also developed my communication and negotiation skills through interaction in meetings with subcontractors and clients.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The support and structure of my programme is great, there are goalposts for my achievements and I always know where I should be gaining knowledge & how to hit those goals if I'm not already achieving them.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support and structure at B&K has been second to none. My line manager and mentor always provide me with a clear path of development for the short and long term.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification gives me all the background knowledge to my daily tasks, creating a foundation for my work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I'm regularly involved with G4C at social events and awards, along with Women in Construction events and I also attend careers events to promote B&K apprenticeships to the next intake.

Yes
Why?
B&K is a friendly and inspiring place to work, coming from a different employer mid way through my programme has really shown me how helpful B&K are. They have supported me through the change and given me a multitude of opportunities to progress and push forward in my career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bowmer + Kirkland?
Be yourself. Grades are important but a huge part of the B&K family is who you are, we think a good personality is something which is always most important when it comes to employing.
