Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a degree apprentice working in a systems engineering team. A lot of my day-to-day so far has been training, learning about MBSE, using MSOSA (a software tool for SysML, simulation and requirements writing). I do a lot of modelling for things like core system decomposition and process flows in my work, not a lot of coding as of yet but it's only been 7 months. I am also involved with the testing side of things - I've presented to international teams about how competitors' cars features work and how users interact with it, and I have interacted with the physical cars as well, as well being onboarded with CAN cracking testing teams. I plan on driving the cars as well on the track that JLR has, which is very exciting. I know many 2nd year and even fellow 1st year apprentices who have already done training and gained their certification/qualification to drive certain cars. I have 1-1s with my manager every 2 weeks, and university is every 3 weeks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
It's really good, great work/life balance. Everybody at work is really nice. Split between uni and work is really well-structured as well.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Teamworking, modelling, time-management, requirement-writing, MSOSA, programming (from uni), presenting.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Really well organised. Uni every 3 weeks is perfect as you can always stay on top of things. every week would be too often and get in the way of work. and 5 weeks would be too long that you kinda forget about uni altogether. 3 weeks is perfect spacing for learning content, self-learning/working on assignments, revising, and work. We have tripartites throughout the year, these are just check ins with a degree apprenticeship tutor to monitor and review your progress against KSBs (Knowledge, Skills, Behaviours). You have these with your manager. at work, you can request to go on placement with other teams if you feel you're not hitting certain KSBs at your current team.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
A lot of support. Most managers do make sure to always check in with you and make sure you've actually got things to do. whenever i feel lost, i always have support from my manager and other co-workers. everybody here is chill and more than happy to help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
a lot of support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
some of the programming we learn is relevant to my work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
there are many. Hiking, YPN, basketball, archery, football, skiing etc.
