Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Placed within a team working within maintenance, shadowing engineers and technicians to try and gain an understanding of the team and role, work on some of my projects/repairs. Going to be starting a 3 month placement that I chose soon.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Interesting work, isn't always enough to do, I get a lot of time to focus on my degree so the workload isn't too much but sometimes it would be good to have more work that I can do when I'm not doing a repair

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Lots of hands on skills/working with tools, lots of fault finding as well

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Clear reporting structure, lots of communication between the Uni and the employer, complete a 3 month placement every year with the opportunity for more. Within the team there could be more structure regarding what I learn and when.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Lots, many people that I can speak to, regular meetings with my early careers lead, don't speak to my manager but my lead engineer is always around, had to push for regular meetings with my lead engineer but they are always available for an informal chat.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The University is really good, have regular meetings with my Uni contact there, also available for extra meetings if I reach out. The lecturers are mostly available as well to answer questions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Only first year so modules aren't very interesting yet (management and quality, health and safety) but some of these principles are used in my team and I've been able to do further courses through the company to work on them.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Early careers network is very active. Can be hard to commute to different events so I don't go to many but there are some relating to sports, hikes, games, food and also a ball in the winter and summer.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Very supportive, I think its better than a normal degree due to the money/no debt factor, big cohort so lots of opportunities to meet people and make friends. very good pay compared to other companies, in my experience they prioritise Uni for me which is unlike lots of other companies where apprentices have to do most Uni work at home.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
be confident when applying, show that you prepared, ask questions and show interest in the business (don't have to know about cars as long as you show that you researched the brand!)
