Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

In my day to day role i am now leading projects as and electrical engineer, using the knowledge gained from my course and past project experiences to deliver innovative designs to a high standard. My work includes using BIM programmes to 3D model building services aswell as carrying out all associated calculations (cables, containment and lighting)
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

TB+A is centred around the growth of its apprentices, there is constant communication within each business unit to ensure that everyone's development is on track and everyone is given an equal opportunity to learn the industry
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

When i first started i had used some basic CAD programmes but now i am competent at using a wide range of different calculation and modelling softwares to reach appropriate compliant building services solutions.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Within my business unit i am surrounded by competent engineers who can offer guidance and training development as and when i require it.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
i have two personal reviews a year where i can raise any problems or weak spots with my line manager who then takes this on board to give me an opportunity to learn on a future design project. There is also a constant stream of communication between all colleagues in the business unit who are always happy to help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We have quarterly reviews with our training provider to ensure that we are up to date on tracking all off the job hours. When reaching the end point assessment stage they are particularly helpful in explaining how the process works to ensure we are ready to move forward.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The combination of academic learning with actual industry experience helps me to develop as an engineer as i can put my learning into practice with each new project i undertake.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I have not yet taken part in them but there are football events and other fitness related events held during our themed weeks.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Troup Bywaters + Anders LLP?
Don't be afraid to ask questions or get things wrong, no one is expected to know everything as they walk in the door. Time is made for teaching apprentices the role and offering each apprentice an equal opportunity.
