Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My job varies on a day-to-day basis and I never have a day that is the exact same. I have recently been completing a lot of work within Higher-Risk-Buildings and assisting with submitting both Gateway 2 and Gateway 3 Applications. I have also been completing Schedule of conditions recently for a client and travelling across the UK to each location. When in the office I work a lot on Building Safety Act and CDM work as well.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
There can be some days where it gets too much or slightly starts to dry up but I think that is standard when working in this type of job. There are not many days at all where I am not enjoying what I have going on and I have people at work that I can speak to comfortably if I am ever not enjoying what I have on.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Literally, every day is a school day at Monaghans, since joining in August 2024 with little to know experience in the surveying world, I have learnt a lot whilst at work and at university. I am surrounded by extremely gifted and knowledgeable peers that also help develop my skills consistently.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
We have in house systems to organize and manage workload to help find the best and most efficient ways of working. The team that I work in help each other to allow best possible output during weeks/months at work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I sit directly next to my boss and across from my employer mentor. This allows me to easily ask any questions throughout the workday, especially with the team being encouraged to come into the office. On days where people are not in the office, they are also contactable via teams.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Alongside university, Monaghans are eager to push extra curricular learning out to all staff. I have even been involved with helping set up in person / online CPD's for all staff to attend. This is useful because it shows that the workplace cares about how employees are getting on with their learning and achieving qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
There are some subjects at university that directly link to my day to day activities but I also fell as though some areas are not as relevant, these may come in handy if I ever change profession or role but for the job I am currently doing it can sometimes feel obsolete.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
As mentioned before, we carry out CPD's regularly. As well as this, there is a Business Fives football team, a pool table on the ground floor, multiple invites out to networking events and also a big part of our job being the Charity Team. I am on the charity team, and we organize a lot of activities in and out of work time that gets people together as well as contributing to charity.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Monaghans Limited to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I already have recommended Monaghans to a friend in the past. This is because of how well staff are treated within the business, with no one being treated wrong or out of place, as well as it being a great consultancy to learn from and pick up skills.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Monaghans Limited?
Tips I have given to others applying in the past is to be yourself, I think that interviews are not only about your ability, but about a judge of character, and it is really important to get across who you are instead of pretending to be someone else. Another tip is to not go in blind, do your research on the company, look a little into surveying before turning up etc, it holds a lasting impression for employers to see that you care about what you are being interviewed about, not just there because you were forced to be!
