Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
No day is the same in my role. I am either on team time, where we shadow the team on different calls as part of a learning exercise and help with any tasks they need an extra hand with. We also travel to vendor offices to learn more about different vendors and their solutions.
Finally, we have rotation time, where we move around the business into different departments and learn about them through presentations and independent study. After each rotation, which can last anywhere from two days to two weeks, we are required to present what we have learned.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the time I spend with my team and visiting vendor sites. However, I would prefer to be integrated into the team at an earlier stage, particularly in terms of having responsibilities with different customers and contributing more to the business. At times, it can feel as though we are being assessed on how well we can recite what we have learned, rather than being given the opportunity to do the job itself.
That said, the employees are extremely helpful and regularly reach out to ensure that I am doing well and fully understanding everything. The presentations during the rotations are very engaging, and there is a strong sense of partnership between the vendors and Computacenter.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have definitely learned many new skills, including gaining general knowledge about the technology industry and different devices, such as the components within these devices and how they work. I have also learned about the different solutions that vendors and partners provide, as well as what Computacenter offers, and how these solutions benefit our customers by helping to solve the challenges they are facing.
In addition, I have developed my PowerPoint skills and improved my ability to prepare for presentations. I now have a much better understanding of how businesses operate, along with the various departments involved in the sales and bid process.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is very well organised, with a clear timetable for the entire graduate scheme that outlines what we will be learning and when.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive support from my employer whenever I need it; however, it is my responsibility to proactively book meetings and ask for support. In addition to the support I receive from my immediate team, employees across Computacenter are always willing to help whenever I reach out.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive support from my training provider through monthly check‑ins to ensure that I am on track with all of my tasks. We also have group sessions to make sure that everyone is aligned and up to date. If my training provider feels that I have not completed enough tasks, she will organise a one‑to‑one meeting with me to ensure that I am managing the workload and that I am supported.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think the qualification provides me with foundational knowledge that I may otherwise overlook in my day‑to‑day role, as well as different techniques I can use to handle various problems and stressful periods. It has also helped me develop better time‑management skills, which I can apply when workloads increase or priorities change.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes, there are extra‑curricular activities available. We have many networking opportunities, such as Women in Tech events. We also regularly organise fitness classes as part of a wellness programme, and there are charity days that employees can sign up to. However, these activities are not always widely advertised, meaning you may not always be aware of the events taking place or who to contact to get involved.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Computacenter to a friend?
Yes
Why?
This is a very extensive programme that encourages you to learn a great deal in a short period of time, supported by friendly and approachable staff throughout.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Computacenter?
I would advise fully engaging from the start by doing your own research and not taking your foot off the pedal. You are constantly learning new things and are often asked to present, so it is important to stay prepared.
Engage with your team as much as possible and try to build strong relationships from the beginning. This makes it easier to reach out to a wide range of people throughout the programme. It is also important to build relationships outside of your immediate team, so that when you move onto rotations, you already have contacts in other departments who you can ask for support.
