Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Computacenter?

It's an exceptional graduate programme that provides a strong foundation for a career in sales. You're given exposure to customers and different parts of the business very quickly, allowing you to build valuable experience from day one. There's no pressure to start selling immediately in your first year. You're also part of a supportive cohort of graduates, making it easy to build friendships and a strong professional network.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

On the program you don't have 'responsibilities' apart from presenting to the MD every month on your progress. You main responsibility is to learn and to get involved and to build your internal network.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

3/5
You don't 'contribute' to your team in the sense that you do things that make you feel valued as you are fairly separated from them whilst on the program as you are kept with your graduate cohort. The opportunity to 'sell' comes after the program. However, you work as a team on the program, this has built my friendships which is the biggest personal success of the program.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

3/5
The salary is 30k with a 3k bonus based on performance, there is currently no relocation allowance. I think this is a reasonable salary for an entry level role where you are not expected to 'sell' during your first year and contribute to the business. However, I don't feel the salary has increased over recent years in line with increased cost of living, having said that the company offers many social activities which are all paid for, so the benefits are received in other ways.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

5/5
I don't feel there is a better way into a carer in technology or sales, it is the most comprehensive, supportive environment for future development. People are truly invested in your success.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

5/5
Absolutely. The programme is engaging because the technology is often complex and constantly evolving. Alongside developing technical and sales knowledge, you learn the soft skills that aren't taught at university, such as communication, time management, and working in a corporate environment. It acts as a great foundation for your career and prepares you well for future roles and responsibilities.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

5/5
You receive 3 tiers of support from different levels of seniority in the business, you are very much advocated for from the inside for your success.

How is your work-life balance?

4/5
Very good, whilst on the program, your work very much stays at work. There may be additional prep you might have to do here or there but mostly, you should have a good ballence.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

4/5
You are supported to be who you are in the workplace and as a FTSE100 organisation, I imagine the push will now only be stronger to be inclusive/ welcoming. As with any workplace, there is always a mixture of people but on the whole Computacenter is very good in this area.

How would you rate Computacenter initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

3/5
I think there is support for events, typically events have to be run and pushed by employees additional to their day jobs as there is limited drive from the internal business to organise and fund but for people I have seen who want to organise events, they have been supported by the business.

How would you rate Computacenter CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

4/5
Computacenter fairly regularly does volunteering day as part of team events, we have a large recycling arm of the organisation which is also sucessful.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Computacenter to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I think this is one of the leading graduate programs, I think it is an amazing opportunity for young people to get into a corporate job that is enjoyable.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

4/5
I think the industry changes so quickly in terms of accounts and technology changes, so there is always going to a slight difference between what is told at the start to what you actually end up doing. But the general role was as advertised.

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Computacenter?

Understand what a Value Added Reseller, understand the three things we sell Technology sourcing, professional services and managed services. During the interview, make sure you have evidence for the things you say- ' I can work as a team'- yes but tell me WHEN and HOW you did this. If you are relocating to London, make sure you budget accurately because the salary is low compared to the cost of living and during your first couple of years, you are not guarented to earn well - though you might.
