Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I mainly work in the dairy department, but I also support Dotcom and tills when needed. On a daily basis, my responsibilities include emptying cages, stocking milk, and reducing products that are close to their sell-by date. I input dates into the PDA to schedule future reductions, slice bread, label products, put out flowers, check product dates, and face shelves to keep the store organised and presentable. I also get rid of cardboard and plastic, fill shelves, complete waste counts, clean spillages, and assist customers when needed. As part of my apprenticeship, I also complete training every week to develop my skills and improve my knowledge of store processes. My role ensures the store runs efficiently, products are safe and well-presented, and the team works effectively together.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme a lot. I get to learn new skills every week, work in different areas like dairy, Dotcom, and tills, and help customers while supporting my team. The weekly training helps me gain even more skills I can use in my job. Overall, I feel my apprenticeship is helping me develop my skills, gain confidence, and when I finish, I can become a shift leader.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have learnt a lot of new skills and developed my existing ones. My weekly training helps me improve my knowledge of how the store runs, like using PDAs, checking stock, and reducing products correctly. I have also developed my customer service skills, teamwork, and time management by helping customers, supporting colleagues, and completing tasks efficiently on the shop floor. These skills will help me in my current role and in the future when I become a shift leader.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I think my programme is very well organised and structured. The weekly training is planned so I can learn new skills and develop existing ones while also working in different areas like dairy, Dotcom, and tills. Tasks on the shop floor are clearly explained, and I know what is expected of me each day. I would give it 4 out of 5 because sometimes, during busy periods like Easter, Christmas, Halloween, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and New Year, there isn’t always enough time to complete the training. Overall, it keeps me on track and helps me learn and develop for the future.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I would give the support I receive from my employer 4 out of 5. I get a lot of help when I need it, and my managers and colleagues are always ready to answer questions or give guidance. However, because there are so many other colleagues they have to look after, sometimes they can’t spend as much time with me as I’d like. Overall, I feel well supported and I know I can ask for help when I need it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I would say I get good support from my training provider. I see him every couple of weeks, and I can email him whenever I need help. He’s been pretty helpful and has trained lots of apprentices before me, so he knows how to guide me through my qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that my qualification really helps me perform better in my role. The training and knowledge I gain from my provider helps me understand how the store works, use tools like PDAs, and complete tasks like reducing products, checking stock with inform, and helping customers more efficiently. It also improves my confidence and skills, which I can use every day on the shop floor and will help me progress in the future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There aren’t many extra-curricular activities at my store, but we do have things like raffles and a Christmas calendar in December. These are fun ways to get involved, take a break from normal tasks, and connect with colleagues. While it’s not like sports or professional events, it still makes the workplace more enjoyable.
