Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I have to keep the health and beauty department clean and tidy, help customers, check dates on products to help ensure accurate stock records, replenish when necessary and keep shelf edge labels up to date. I also ensure the promo ends and reduction mod are well stocked. I also help on checkouts when needed.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my role because I’m always learning, am interested in the products and services offered, I like helping others, am proud to be a Tesco colleague and no two days are the same.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes I have learned a lot about customer service, sustainability, shrink and the legal and safety side of retail such as protecting data.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think it is very informative and accessible, encouraging me to learn about important aspects of retail such as legal obligations, protected characteristics, diversity, team work, brand and reputation, merchandising, marketing and data protection in store as well as online.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I am confident that I can ask colleagues and managers for help and support in anything that I am curious about, ranging from refund policies to how to use a PDA

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training adviser always replies when I have queries and arranges regular meetings to help me complete the programme

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Absolutely 100% because it guides me towards the key aspects of retail and I can see how they apply at Tesco

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes there are often social events such as Christmas parties and summer barbecues

It’s a really interesting place to work, colleagues and managers are helpful and friendly. It’s great to meet so many people every day, whether it’s customers of all ages and backgrounds, reps or colleagues of course. I am proud to work for such a trusted brand which is a market leader and constantly moving forward.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tesco plc?

Stay positive and persevere. I was offered a job on my third application.
