Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I Focus on maintaining and improving health, safety and wellbeing standards across many sites in the south of the UK alongside my team. This involves monthly themes, toolbox talks, educational sessions and site observations ext.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have had great support from my whole team, as well as the development team in my time at EMR.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Coming straight from sixth form, learning how to navigate with older adults and those with different levels of experience in the workplace was challenging. Especially in a support role, its difficult to learn when you are supposed to be the educator. Nonetheless, I have never felt like an outcast in any room i step into, with every member of staff being so invested and supportive of my development. I have also gotten better at excel and sending a good professional email :)

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Within my training provider, we have planned months ahead of where my development is expected to be at, where it is and how our study sessions align with that. Externally, with EMR i had a set weekly plan of where to go/do during my induction phase, to understand EMR ,its values and where i sit in all of this. As I became more comfortable, there was a smooth transition to having more independence
.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive excellent support, I know i can reach out to anyone in my team whenever for anything.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I receive adequate support from my training provider.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Although my company provides a lot of support for me in the workplace, my apprenticeship supports my more technical side, deep diving into legislation or the psychology behind a good productive conversation.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I have been to many professional networking events, being able too get my face and name out has been a game changer when communicating with people.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EMR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Scrap metal isn't the industry anyone imagines themselves to enter, for me it definitely wasn't on my 2025 bingo cards. It has been an amazing, supportive and positive journey so far and this company and its people have been second to none in helping me feel at home.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EMR?
Go in with an open mind, you never know what is around the corner!!
