Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

In my day to day role, I would assist with pricing our projects at a pre construction phase to create a budget for when a job goes live. There are other tasks like admin and subcontractor communication as well.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme is good. the mix of working experience and theory with the day release for university is so beneficial at this early stage of my career. There is a lot of support and also a lot of people who have been through the same process.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a range of new skills within my university and work life. I have learnt how to send out enquiries, input quotes, take off quantities, express information on excel and to get a better understanding of the components which make up a new build housing project. The role has got me to the point of where I am pricing my own project within a year and a half of being at the company which is good progression also.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Lots of support throughout the company with both work and university with webinars and also assigned mentors as well.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

We have quarterly performance reviews which are very insightful. I also feel very comfortable going to him with any issues I have.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Webinars and other resources are available for us to view. But the best way is to speak with people in the company who have completed the course themselves.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification is different to my work so it doesn't massively improve my knowledge but it helps me understand general knowledge for construction which is useful.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I have been to out of office events hosted by Hill. We have a social team which have a variety of different extra curricular activities which cater to all people within Hill.
