Working in technical is one of the most diverse roles and rarely is a day ever the same. Longer tasks included within the role is coordinating consultants and design items, for example the Architect and Structural Engineer with the structural steel designer; also completing reviews / commenting on designs to resolve potential issues or defects in designs. But, the role also has many other smaller day to day responsibilities, like creating payment requests to send to our commercial team, ensuring our consultants get paid correctly and on time.
This job role also will have you building great working relationships as with the internal commercial team, site teams and the client, as the technical coordination role is all about making designs and communicating the information as clear and efficient as possible.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

You will most likely learn something new everyday and will never know it all. Also, seeing the designs on paper come to life and seeing them progress.

My knowledge of construction as a whole and the internal processes has become so much broader with my time here. Also, my confidence and communication skills have definitely improved for both informal and formal settings.

The programme is definitely well structured as it is clearly mapped out to you from the start of the first year, and there is support available should you have questions about the structure of the programme.
Also, the programme has a rotation period in the first year which will help gain experience in other areas of the business and broaden your knowledge too.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

Thankfully I have not needed much support from my employer, but the trainee / management programme lead is there for support and advice whether for anything work related, Uni related, or personal.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The Uni I attend has some decent assistance for some areas of the Degree Apprenticeship, like the Off the Job log and keeping this going. However, there can be some lecturers that are not as good as others so may need to put the extra effort into learning one a bit more etc.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

So far, as I am only in my first year, this is hard to tell at this point. But there are some modules at Uni that help with this role, including the design and materials module, which has helped develop my understanding of the build process and the properties of some materials used in real life projects etc.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, every month there is the "Social Committee" which have events which the company set up, buying into this is also very cheap, often cheaper than going by yourself / with friends, most of the time only £10. Hill also put on events for families and kids in your families, as I am aware there was an Easter event including an Easter Egg Hunt for all to get involved in.

- Be yourself in the interviews, confidence and make the interview into a conversation.
- Relate your experience in anything / achievements to qualities the interviewer would want to hear about.
- Keep in mind if you have just left school, you will know nothing / very little about construction, and they know and expect that too.
