Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
My job role as a Trainee Technical Coordinator is to assist in the technical aspects of construction, consisting of consultant management, all design approvals, Building Regulations compliance, planning approvals, and general problem solving on site. It is a fast paced and interesting environment where each day is different.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I have enjoyed my degree apprenticeship from start to present and have consistently improved my knowledge within construction, and my overall skillset. I have been given more and more responsibility within my role, meaning I always feel trusted and valued. I have also been lucky enough to be given multiple opportunities that have helped me progress further.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Yes, my confidence has improved through steadily developing my communication, ability to work in teams, technology, commercial and presenting skills through chairing meetings, working with a site team, taking additional learning courses, etc.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
The programme is well structured and I believe communication has improved significantly when information is being passed down to us.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I am aware of the multiple people within Hill that I would be able to contact for support within my programme, and my direct line manager and department manager both check in on progress and my wellbeing - as well as consistent support within my day-to-day work.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

4/5
I have not yet completed the qualification, however, from what I have learnt so far I am able to say that it helps perform better within my role. Often what I learn when working towards my Uni qualification, I am able to apply on site. This has helped me get a head start on a task at work, where I have a base understanding from learning.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
There is a social committee within Hill that arrange many activities available site wide. I understand Hill also do an annual football tournament for employees, and that when site awards are won, the team are all able to attend, which are great opportunities for trainees to network

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend The Hill Group to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I would reccommend The Hill Group to a friend, as the programme has been a great experience and opportunity so far.
The university degree aspect combined with real working experience on site means that the programme offers a complete package, which I feel sets you up for a long career. Hill have been helpful and supportive during my time here.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The Hill Group?

To ask questions about the specific job role that is being applied for and what daily works entail - I found there is unfortunately not a great deal of construction apprenticeships targeted to students during career fairs / guidance, which means that the job roles within Hill's management programme might be a bit unknown.
