Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a planner at Kier Group, I am responsible for developing, managing, and maintaining project programmes across a range of infrastructure schemes. My role involves working closely with project teams to ensure that plans are realistic, efficient, and aligned with project objectives.
On a day-to-day basis, I produce and update detailed schedules using planning software, monitor progress against key milestones, and identify any potential risks or delays. I regularly liaise with site teams, engineers, and project managers to gather progress information and ensure programmes reflect current site activities. I also analyse programme performance, provide reports to stakeholders, and support decision-making by highlighting critical path activities and opportunities for improvement.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my programme and would rate my overall experience very highly. The combination of practical, on-the-job learning at Kier Group alongside my academic studies at Coventry University provides a well-rounded and rewarding experience. The degree in project management complements my role as a planner, allowing me to apply theoretical knowledge directly to live infrastructure projects. This has helped me develop a deeper understanding of project controls, risk management, and programme strategy, which I can see improving my confidence and capability in the workplace. I particularly enjoy the variety in my role and the opportunity to contribute to real projects while continuing to learn. The support from both the university and my employer has been strong, making it a positive and engaging experience overall.
