Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I currently work as a Hospitality Supervisor at Compass Group, based in London.
On a day-to-day basis, I support the planning, setup, and execution of events. This includes preparing rooms to a high standard (often fine dining level), ensuring all equipment and stock are ready, and coordinating closely with both front-of-house and kitchen teams. I lead briefings before service, making sure the team understands the event details, service style, and any specific guest requirements.
In addition, I’m involved in stock control, training team members, and maintaining compliance with health & safety and company standards.
Alongside my role, I’m completing a Level 5 Operations Manager apprenticeship, which allows me to reflect on my leadership, improve team performance, and contribute more strategically to the business.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the programme and find it genuinely valuable to my development. It gives me the opportunity to step back from the day-to-day operations and reflect on how I lead, plan, and support my team. I particularly enjoy the mix of practical learning and real-life application, as I can immediately bring new ideas into my role. It has helped me grow in confidence and think more strategically about my future in hospitality.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
es, I have developed both new and existing skills throughout the programme. I’ve strengthened my leadership and communication skills, especially when managing teams during service and delivering clear briefings and feedback.
I’ve also developed my financial awareness, including basic costing and understanding how decisions impact budgets and profitability. In addition, I’ve improved my presentation skills through preparing and delivering ideas during sessions and assessments, which has increased my confidence when speaking in front of others.
Overall, the programme has helped me become more organised, more confident in problem-solving, and more aware of the bigger operational picture.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very well structured and thoughtfully planned. It provides a clear pathway for development, with each module linking back to real-life situations in my role.
I particularly value the balance between theory and practical application, as well as the ongoing support from trainers and mentors. The structure keeps me focused, motivated, and able to consistently track my progress.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive great support from my employer, including time for my studies, regular feedback, and opportunities to apply what I learn in my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive strong support from my training provider through regular check-ins, clear guidance, and helpful feedback, which keeps me on track and confident in my progress.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It helps a lot. I can apply what I learn directly into my role, improving my leadership, organisation, and understanding of finance and operations.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are great opportunities to get involved in extra activities. Through the programme, I’ve taken part in networking events, away days, and industry visits, which have been really valuable.
These experiences allow me to connect with other professionals, gain new perspectives, and learn outside of my usual environment. It’s something I really enjoy, as it adds variety and supports my overall development.
