Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Initially worked as fuel card administrator, started learning more about automation and data analysis, so my role shifted to be more data and MI based, and i was given the opportunity to start a degree apprenticeship through Multiverse. just finished the lvl4 and am moving on to the lvl5/lvl6 top up degree.
Day to day involves helping colleagues automate aspects of their workload, introduce new processes to replace existing manual ones, and overseeing the team that handles my original fuel card related work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Really enjoyed the lvl4 programme as it has allowed me to build my skills in a more structured and recognised way. This, combined with the positive approach that my colleagues and manager have responded to me doing this course, coming to me with ideas/problems that i can assist them with, has meant I have plenty of opportunities to apply what i'm learning.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I was starting to learn Power Automate and Power Query prior to the apprenticeship, but this has increased significantly, thanks to my colleagues and manager coming to me with ideas they want to implement. I've also learnt some Python from my apprenticeship, and am keen to find more areas I can apply this in my day to day work. The apprenticeship has also rounded out my knowledge in terms of the best way to approach new projects (Data Analysis Lifecycle) and other related best practise data related techniques..

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My manager checks in with me regularly on progress with the apprenticeship, however i would say i'm not a typical apprentice, having been in my prior role a number of years.
The course provider Multiverse appear to be good at keeping things rolling along, with regular learning sessions scheduled.
My manager has also been positive about helping to find appropriate work to focus on for the various parts of my portfolio and End Point Assessment.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Full positive support. My manager is always keen to hear about new things i've learnt, in case there are existing work processes we can tweak or re-invent.
There's been zero issues in terms of having enough time to do the degree work, as the majority of the time, i'm able to manage my own time, and can easily schedule blocks of time for degree work, around various meetings or time sensitive work being required.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I've had no issues with Multiverse, any queries or concerns i've had have been answered promptly, and theres the opportunity to schedule in one-to-one support calls, or small group calls if i feel the need.
The learning sessions appear to be well structured. There are also occasional "hackathons" giving me the opportunity to work with other people doing the degree on small projects.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Initially i was a little sceptical of whether i was actually learning anything "new", however over time i realised that the benefit from the qualification for myself in particular is a sort of "rounding out" of my knowledge in Data Analysis.
I was learning Power Query and Power Automate myself originally, and applying it to some work processes, however now, with the things i've learnt from the qualification, i can apply and tweak these ideas in the "right" way. I've found myself approaching projects and tasks in a more structured way, and my train of thought around troubleshooting issues has evolved and improved, I believe as a direct result of the qualification
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Balfour Beatty has alot of extra-curricular activities ongoing. There is a committee at our office, and other offices, that ensures activities are regularly scheduled, at no cost to the employee.
Things as simple as different food trucks occasionally coming in at lunch time, but also organising the opportunity to attend various sports activities, or alternative activities like go-karting, scarefest or even a "rage room"!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I wouldn’t describe myself as a typical apprentice. I’d already been working at Balfour Beatty for ten years before starting the Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship. The opportunity came about because of the data and automation work I was already doing in my role, particularly using tools like Power Query and Power Automate, and the apprenticeship gave me the chance to build on those skills in a more structured and recognised way.
I’ve recently completed the Level 4 and am now moving on to a Level 5 and 6 top‑up, with the aim of achieving a degree. Throughout the apprenticeship, I’ve had great support from my manager and colleagues, who have been genuinely encouraging and interested in my development. They often bring interesting ideas or problems my way, which has given me the chance to apply what I’m learning to real, day‑to‑day business challenges.
Balfour Beatty is a great place to work, and this experience has really shown me how committed the company is to supporting continuous learning, investing in its people, and enabling career development at any stage of a career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
Review and tweak your CV as much as possible, making sure it's rounded out and properly "selling yourself"
Do a little research on Balfour Beatty, and write a decent covering letter.
If the application process involves a group activity/interview, make sure you get involved and put your point across.
