Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
The structure of my apprenticeship was not the best, it lacked rotation into different fields. The work can be continous but in the end rewarding. In my normal day to day I will test and build products.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the workplace, everyone is very insightful and willing to teach, however, the role of an apprentice is to gather knowledge from other fields, I believe this could have been achieved with more accurate structure.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
This being said I have developed exsiting knowledge within engineering from the day to day operations of my job. I have also gained many new skills from shadowing senior engineers.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
Could be better, I have not had much rotation, which I believe has restricted my progression as an engineer. It just needs more time and organisation to ensure apprentices gain the maximum out of the scheme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Every one is very helpful at work, the will to teach and pass on knowledge is one of the driving factors why I have been able to achieve what I have.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Every one is very helpful and caring. If i was to have any trouble with college, many of the engineers are very willing to teach and help where they can.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
The college course itself is quite poor. Not just the content but the classes are very poorly managed. Incorrect assignments too lectures not turning up/not caring. The course is relevant in certain aspects, however, I beleive there is a more relevant course out there.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes of course, there is badminton, football, golf, summer, christmas and random social events. I find these events are always the best to boost morale and overall realtions with staff memebers.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The idea of having BAE Systems on a CV is a bonus in all forms. I also believe, with certain changes, the whole apprenticeship can become one of the best that BAE offer. Overall I know I have gained experience, and boosted my knowledge within a workplace, so with this in mind I find that I would still recommend this scheme.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Come with an open mind and a willingness to learn and gain technical experience within a workplace. The engineers are always willing to pass on knowledge and they respect young staff members when they show interest and ask many questions.
