Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role is to go over a lot of training on things, like human factors, CFM, tooling, SMS and Part 145. We looked at, and learned how to perform some tasks, like engine wrapping, component changes and engine inventory checks. Sometimes, we create PowerPoints and present them to our group to help with our communication skills, and our ability to keep a group of people interested with a topic. I shadow other mechanics and technicians to see what work they have to perform, and sometimes help them. On a day-to-day basis, I will come in and sit down, wondering if there's any work for me to do, like wrapping an engine, or moving them around the workspace or storage. If not, I'll be busy doing any work I need to do, like from my college, or a PowerPoint we need to finish for a presentation.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Not only do I enjoy the work I do, I also enjoy the people I work with. It makes the work I do go by a lot faster, and makes it easier. My mentor helps me with any issues I have, and makes any problems I come across a lot easier to face. He's helping me to become an amazing engineer, which is rare to find in another workspace, yet alone this industry.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My hand skills have improved a lot. For example, even though we've done a lot about wire locking, we still practice our locking skills until it's high quality. Even if we do it once, we still carry on until we're able to do it consistently.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
When I come in, there will always be something for us to do, like wrapping an engine, or practicing on my hand skills.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
If I ever needed any support, my employer is always ready to help to the best of his ability.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a good amount of support, because they do help with my exams.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It teaches me a couple few things I wouldn't have known for my role without learning the qualification, like a Part 66.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
They offer quite a lot extra-curricular activities. We're even planning on doing a 5-a-side football match, and a couple weeks ago, all the apprentices were in a room doing fun activities, like Pictionary. We also did a meet and eat, were we talked about STS's goals, value champions of the month, and eating hot dogs.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend STS Engine Services to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's very demanding, you'll be working around engines a lot, actually being hand on with the work. The work environment is very strong as well, working with enjoyable people, which make life so much easier.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to STS Engine Services?
You need to have a lot of integrity and passion, as that's the most important thing to have when working in this industry. You could be the best engine mechanic in the world, but if you're not honest and aren't team focused, there would be no point in applying.
