Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My typical working day as a Thames Water Apprentice would be an eventful day. First thing that would happen is seeing everybody in the office and to then see what we have in store that day with contractors on site for different projects that I may look at even if they may not be my job specifically. As well as looking for the schedule that day I may even have paperwork to either review and send
back to the contractors or to do for myself to update where I am at with everything. The positives on a day to day as an apprentice at Rye Meads specifically would be how friendly everyone is and you can speak to anyone there and they will help you if possible or point you in the correct direction of someone that can help. When being on site with the contractor it is interesting to see the different
way people think about getting to different solutions for a problem and which one will end up being most efficient.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have really enjoyed my programme both on-site and my Uni work. The main part that I enjoy is learning new skills and meeting new people.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many new skills from both my workplace as well as my Uni. They have both linked well to give me an understanding of what my job is and how to comply with certain legislations as well as different pieces of information such as the RIBA Plan of Works.

My programme is very structured and helps me learn new things pretty much every day.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I tend to receive a lot of support from my employer because they want me to be the best that I can at my role.

Again, I receive a lot of support from my training provider when working towards my qualifications because they are teaching us a new topic to help in the workplace as well.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel like my training provider has helped me a lot to perform better in my role because it gives me more information that I can take into my workplace role and use it to my advantadge.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes there is social activities that I participate in which is the golf society.

Would you recommend Thames Water to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because it is a community rather than a company and everyone is friendly and has the knowledge to help even if you have been at the company for a couple years.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Thames Water?
I would say come into Thames with a positive attitude and mindset and wanting to learn and wanting to impress and you will get far.
