Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work in the finance function support team and in my role my main tasks are to prepare annual accounts for unaudited companies. I also prepare monthly management accounts and vat returns for some clients.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have really enjoyed working in the FFS team in RSM guildford. I love the team I work in, I am always being challenged with the different types of work I am given, and everyone is really approachable and supportive which make it a great working and learning environment.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My organisation and communication skills have massively improved as I have had to balance working on multiple jobs with different managers at one time. As well as this Ive had to balance full time work with revising for my AAT exams.
I have becoe much more confident on excel through doing a number of different training courses provided by RSM. I am also very confident using RSM accounting software.
My technical accounting skills have massively improved since I first started.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Really well structured. Its been really easy to keep track of when my next college sessions or exams are. We have a training manager who oversees our exam pathway which makes this much easier. This also helps to reduce any stress around starting college and going into exams.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Lots of support. Everyone is very approachable and supportive, whether it is with a job I am working on or if I need help with something on an upcoming exam, everyone is very helpful and most problems I have experienced have been solved extremely quickly. When you first join rsm you are assigned a buddy which also is really helpful when youre first settling into the new role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Lots. We have a training manager who stays up to date with exams and apprenticeship work. This is also someone who has completed this qualification so has lots of experience and can give good advice on anything we are struggling with.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel so far my qualification has massively helped with my role. They both go hand in hand. Some exams I have gone into and have recognised different aspects as Ive looked at them in my day to day job. Other times I come out of exams learning new things which have been really helpful for me to become better at my job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are a number of socials for just my team and twice a year we have an office wide social. When youre a new joiner you get go go on a residential with all of your intake across the whole country. This is a great way to meet people in the same position as you in other offices.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend RSM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Ive had a great experience at RSM for the 18 months I have been here.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSM?
Make sure to show an interest in the company and the role you are applying to. Work on your soft skills and have a good idea of how these may relate to this role. Also think about how you are going to balance a full time job with studying for AAT and ACA exams.
